Become a Zumba instructor, teach the class you love, while working out you can make extra $$ getting a class in your area that isn't there, do a workout you love and have motivation to go, since you will be instructor0

I agree with jacksonpt 100%!! We don't always enjoy the things we need to do. I used to hate exercising....Like, really, HATE it. I did it any ways. I love it now. I crave it. I miss it when I am gone.
I think what helped me the most was lots of variety and really small attainable goals. Because we all like to feel like we're achieving something, right? I have a list of 100 fitness goals. Some are "attendance" type goals. Ones I can cross off EVERY DAY. Most others are achievement goals. I know I can do ALL of them! So excited to cross the whole list off. I plan to frame it when I'm done!
Exactly. While I can't say I love it. My body does miss it when I don't get a workout in. I think it is also a matter of getting used to a workout, not necessarily loving it. I just do it anyway most days. Lord knows I don't like sweating or huffing and puffing.0 -
Me too! Like you I have tried everything. The only thing I can stick at is my elliptical trainer which is now in our spare room. I spend 45 mins a day on this - first thing, otherwise I won't do it - going as fast as possible while watching TV. The time simply goes if you have a recording of your favourite program on the box! You can pick these up pretty cheaply and definitely works for me0

Build something around your interests! Do you like being outside or inside? I think that will determine a lot of where you need to start. Group X is fun, but if you don't have access to it, what about a running or walking club? Do you have a rock wall you can climb? Sometimes, a great way to decompress is to just take a walk, and you'd be surprised at how quickly a short walk turns in to an hour long walk which winds up being 200 calories burned! If you like pets, you can go to your local animal shelter and help walk dogs, or if you're in a rural area, horseback riding? Lots and lots of ideas out there and if you think about it, you should be able to exercise on the cheap with a little creativity!0

Threads like this (I don't like vegetables/exercise/water) always come off a little like the OP is asking for permission not to change something. So I'll take the opposite route everyone else probably is and say you have permission to not exercise. Feel free to watch TV or play video games to your heart's content instead since those things are way more fun usually. You'll still be able to lose weight if you eat at a deficit so no worries. Exercise makes things easier but it's absolutely optional.0

I don't enjoy all my workouts either, but I def enjoy the results! Look at what you are going to gain through doing it, you'll start liking it eventuallly because it'll make you look better!0

i have tried pretty much everything, i love zumba but there isnt a class near me and the dvd's just arent as fun. and because i cant find one i enjoy i just give up. i had to cancel mmy gym membership because it just cost too much, so the odds really arent on my side.. any ideas of something exciting and fun to do ?

Do you enjoy cleaning the basement? Do you enjoy washing windows? Do you enjoy vacuuming? Do you do them anyway? Sometimes it's not about enjoying everything you do, sometimes it's about doing what needs to be done.
Yes, Ideally you'd want to enjoy what you're doing. But a lot of things become more fun as you get better at them. And few people start something new being better at it. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet, do something for a week or a month or whatever, and grow to enjoy it.
I agree with this. Sometimes you just have to do things. I like working out better now then I did when I first started. And I like the feeling afterwards, which is what I try to focus on.
I like playing just dance. There are songs I know and I try to beat my old score. Wii Fit and other games. You can get your heart rate up and play games at the same time, win-win!0 -
Do you have an xbox? Do you have a kinect? I have Jillian Michaels, some kickboxing mma thing, and some other fitness games. They do in a pinch, and if you have kids you can compete with them. My family always gets sucked into doing it with me...I just look like I'm having too much fun...but they really kick my butt. I'm sure they have them for whatever the playstation has too. Some of the games are older, but you can still get them online or through a used game store.
Also, 30 day shred....do it. You won't be sorry. I also have a Jillian Michaels app on my tablet. I haven't done it yet, but it is all hand weights and body weight exercises. Looks like a solid work out to me.
As for the xbox, even some of the non work out games get you moving. And you can play with the kidlets, and they like it.
You can also walk. It's free. Its easy. Your dog will love it. You can go somewhere neat, like downtown to window shop or to the park. Kidlets usually love it too.
Play in the park as well. Works if you have kids under 7 or so. I used to run after my son, do the monkey bars, do some chin ups, run up the slides (such a bad influence) He loved it. It tired him out, and I was the coolest mom there.
Not too long ago, life was as such that we didn't need to look for exercise. Maybe just let go of some luxuries, such as driving to work, parking your kid in front of the tv and just get active.0 -

Not everyone who is at the gym sweating their butt off is enjoying it. If you wait until you enjoy doing your taxes, your gonna have a bad time, but you do it anyways. Exercise is like that. I hate squats, step ups and lunges. I do them because I want a nice butt more than I want to sit on it...
I love being on the elliptical with loud music pounding going as fast as I can. If you love music, maybe make it all about the music? I'm probably going deaf, but I'm fit.0 -

I got a part-time job where I board my horse. I love working with all the horses and get a great burn every day, when I'm not working I'm either working my horse or riding.
I also am learning to run and going through C25K for the second time. I can't get the zombies run app but I heard it's a lot more fun from others on the site using it. I also like hiking so I'm running on the hiking trails.
Finally, I work with a personal trainer 2 days per week and that is not my favorite thing but I decided I'm worth it. If you can't afford the gym I understand but once you decide you are worth the effort the exercise will be easier.0 -
My goal over the next few months is just try and remember how to play. I'm doing 5x5 in the mornings so I have huge chunks of daylight that, really, I just want to play like a 12 year old.

walking, biking, roller skating/blading, running, dancing, soccer, hiking, basketball, swimming, none of those things are interesting? You don't need to be in a gym to get a workout. You can even go play on a kid's playground and get some good exercise.0

There's "enjoy" and then there's "enjoy" - sometimes you just have to go with the thing you dislike the least. And with most types of exercise, you won't really enjoy them until you get a basic level of mastery, which means doing stuff you hate for some period of time. Don't give up too soon!
That said, try to figure out what you like about Zumba - is it the group energy? The dancing? The constant switching up? Do you feel especially good at it? Then try to find something that has those same qualities. If it's the group energy, that will be kind of tough if there aren't any classes near you. But you can start your own exercise group! My mother-in-law used to invite all her friends over to do yoga DVDs in her living room twice a week, they had a blast.
Or if you really can't find anything you like, at least try to find the exercise that gets you the most benefit in the shortest time - bodyweight circuits are great for this. 25 minutes, 3x/week, boom, done. Plus they're free, and you can do them anywhere, so you don't have to worry about "oh I can't afford the gym" or "it's snowing, I can't hit the pool today".
^All of this. I do not like exercising and going to the gym or classes is pretty inconvenient right now.
This is why I love the 30DS. I can do it at home and in 25 mins. Do I "enjoy" doing it ? No , not really. I do, however, love the results.0 -
I have a 15-year old, and I've told him that if he 1) plays for 45 mins and 2) works up a sweat, we are willing to call playing the drums cardio.
It doesnt have to be traditional exercise, sports, or anything like that ...

Personally I love walking! .... It's a great stress reliever, you can talk things over to yourself as you walk, you can listen to music, you can walk with a friend, spouse etc.0

if you really liked zumba, you'd find the closest class and go to it.
i really like swimming. i have limited options, but i found the pool that works for me. it's about a 20-30 minute drive from my home, and costs separate from my gym membership. but i make it work.0 -
Xbox Kinect. They have all types of video games that you have to use your whole body for. When my brother lived with me, I was so addicted to playing it.0

My wife likes Wii Fit. The interactive nature of it makes it better than watching videos.
I like cycling. Coming into the winter, it might not be good to start that now, but it's what I do.0 -
I suggest trying to find a sport you like. Team sports can be particularly motivating. Intramural leagues often have recreational level teams. Ultimate frisbee, soccer, tennis, dodgeball, wrestling (Jiu Jitsu gym style), climbing gym (all climbing walls), and more. I love tennis myself, and find I'll work at it much longer than I would run on my own. Basketball is another good one. Cool thing is for most of these sports, there are ways to contribute even if you are 'unskilled', like rebounding in basketball, setting picks.0

Last summer I reached out of my comfort zone and started going to the water aerobics at the local pool and LOVED it! But now it is not pool weather here, so I decided to start going to the local aerobics class at our church. It is really fun. It is just a small group of women and we have a really good workout. The instructor really researches her stuff to find new things to try. And they only charge $1 and have all of the equipment we need for our workouts, like weights, steps, exercise balls, resistance bands, and floor mats.
Aerobics is only Mondays and Thursdays, so I try to walk the High School track on the nights that I do not go to aerobics if I am in town. I live out in the country so its not always convenient. So I go whenever my kids are at their functions, such as football practice, youth group, or girl scout meetings. I make it work into my hectic schedule also.
So maybe you could try to find some type of aerobics or workout classes locally that are not in the gym??
I just started aquafit too...didn't think I'd like it, but man is it a work out. I hate working out, not one part of it is "fun", But you know what? I hate eating right and logging everything. I also hate paying bills and working every day. It's called being an adult. Either you exercise or you don't. It's your choice.0 -
Check your local community center, town rec office or school. Many offer free or low cost classes or programs.0

Martial arts? I've been training in karate for nearly a year and can't believe how much I enjoy it.
Weights? Have been lifting heavy for a few months now and am surprised at how much I love it.
I never thought I'd like either of the above and found I was wrong! It's worth trying things our even if you think they don't appeal to you, you might be in for a pleasant surprise!0 -

I would suggest joining a recreational sports league in your town. I joined kickball a few months ago, and I bet that I burn about 250 calories in one game. Lots of running, and it's fun to be with your friends!!
Although, I must admit, there is some beer involved (moderation) but I totally feel that I get a workout in!0 -

Staying motivated to exercise is one of the more challenging things in life when we have so many things pulling at us. Not easy to workout at home because of all the things in the house telling us that they are the priority: fix me, run this errand, pick me up, blah blah blah. But motivated we must be if we want to receive any real gains from working out.
It's important I think to have a variety of things on the exercise menu not just one. Walking, sprinting, jump rope, yoga, Tai Chi, exercise DVDs etc. And here is the deal... it's a lot easier not exercising than exercising, no? To exercise you must get out of your comfort zone, and in all things in life, nothing great is ever accomplished inside our comfort zones.
There is nothing "comfortable" about exercising, in fact if it is comfortable then you are not pushing yourself as you need to to get the results you are looking for. We must push ourselves beyond our perceived limits to grow. A muscle does not grow unless it is pushed to try to go beyond it's capacity.
And who said we need to wear ourselves out for an hour to see results. 15 minutes of focused exercise will give us tremendous results!
With a DVD program you don't need to do it for an hour. How bout just 15 minutes one day, the next day do something else. The next day go back to the DVD. That way it keeps it interesting.
