Zumba vs Zumba Gold

I've seen countless threads concerning Zumba but I haven't found answers I was looking for. It deals with the difference between regular Zumba and Zumba Gold.

So I decided I was going to take a Zumba class (as well as a fitness walking class) as credit next semester as electives. The only bad part is I've never done Zumba! I've heard my friends rave about it but I've never been to an actual class. Mostly because I'm afraid to look like a total goof!

Anyway, I ordered Zumba Gold Live It Up! off eBay only to realize after it shipped that it is catered to seniors. I'm 22! After contacting the seller, I can return it for a refund once I get it and send it back off but I was wondering what the difference it between Zumba and Zumba Gold.

Has anyone here, not a senior, taken a Gold class before or teach it? I'm not too worried about movement, I'm not disabled in anyway and I have loads of energy thanks to hiking all the time this summer. I'm just wondering if it's worth a try with the Zumba Gold or should I return it and order the Exhilarate DVDs.

I just want to have some Zumba knowledge before I take that semester-long class in the Spring!

    I am only a participant....not an instructor....not an expert:

In my opinion the difference is in the moves and speed of those moves. For example: Zumba Gold (being for Seniors) is slower with less bouncing type moves (hurts the knees of Seniors). However, I take a Zumba Gold class on Monday's at my local Y because it is the only one available at the time I am available. LOL!! I modify the moves as much as possible to get the most out of the workout. I workout at a higher intensity to burn more calories.

I attend a typical Zumba class on Wednesdays and Fridays. Much more intense with speed and movements. LOVE IT!!

Hope this helps to explain a little more.

That definitely helps! looks like I'll just return it and buy Zumba Exhilaration to prepare for next semester. Thanks!

I really like the Zumba Gold DVD. For me, I liked the pace and that it is low impact. And it is still a great workout for your abs. (I'm not a senior yet, I've got just under 20 years for that.)
