Any advice to get back on track?

Tomorrow I am attempting to finally get myself back on track once and for all. I have been struggling a great deal lately with my diet so I am nervous to start again tomorrow. I am not the best at tracking but I know that counting calories is really the only way to be successful with this. However, when it comes to preparing meals and figuring out the right things to eat, I get so frustrated that I wind up giving up. Im looking for any advice on how to get myself back on track, perhaps suggestions on what food to buy, easy meals to prepare ect. If there are any books or websites you recommend I'd be willing to check those out as well.

Thank you!!

The first few weeks will be the hardest, but if you tend to eat similar things often, MFP will learn those things so you can go to your favourites for recent and frequent meals instead of having to search every single time. It can also help to think of the recipes you cook often and pop them into your recipe box. That way they're there and ready for you when you want them :)

I spend 5 minutes before bed thinking of what I will eat the following day and logging it in advance. I can always go in and make changes if necessary, but it's nice to have it all planned out.

Try eating simple, plain foods that are easy to track in the beginning. Don't make recipes that require a bunch of calculations and estimating calories. Eat individual foods that you can look up the calories and log them. Get scales and weigh your food so you know for sure what you ate. Don't restrict or demonize foods. If you can fit it into your budget, eat it.

A lot of times starting out we try to make things too hard by restricting and obsessing. If you mess up one day just get back on track and carry on.

Honestly, it sounds like the best path for you might be something like WW. It costs more, but there is nothing to think about, and you can empty your home of everything that isn't appropriate.

Now that I have been logging for 500 days, I have a workable system. In reality, we don't generally eat that many different things. I have 10 or 15 recipes entered into the recipe builder. I make those and portion them out into individual containers. I freeze a lot of containers. When I get up in the morning, I can pretty nearly log the whole day based on what I have and feel like eating that day. I can log in 3 minutes while the coffee is brewing.

Then I just eat off the list for the rest of the day. No more decisions. If I do change my mind, I can alter my log

I have nothing in my house that isn't on my food plan.

There are lots of resources. You can go to websites like Cooking Light or Eating Well. They have recipes and meal plans. If you sign up for the Bode by Vemma (Chris Powell's carb cycling), it gives you lots of recipes and suggestions. I didn't buy any of their products though. Apples are a great snack and are plentiful this time of year.
