Mysterious rib/under breast pain - anyone else get this?

Let me just say first of all that I have been to a doctor about this, and apparently there's nothing wrong, but I'd like some input from a community who are body-aware. :flowerforyou:

I get this pain every now and then, I'm not exactly concerned because this is regular for me and as I've noted, my doctor wasn't worried either. I don't really want to google it because that always shows the worst-case scenarios! It's on my ribs, almost at the bottom part of my bust, but it's not breast pain, it feels deeper than that, like it's directly on my ribs.

It can last a while, and I have to be very careful when I breathe in, because if I breathe in too fast, it feels like something is pulling or tugging and the pain sharpens. I've had it for a couple of days now, it's fading away, but I really want to know what the heck it is! I asked my mother once, she said he has had it before as well, is this maybe something to do with the female body?

Back when I was a runner, I would those also. It is usually caused by improper breathing while exercising heavily.

You can also get them from pinched nerves in that area.

If you have had it checked by a doctor, I would also agree that at this point, it is nothing to worry about.

Sounds as if you've got some inflamation in the connecting tissue. Have you had a cold recently in which you were doing some heavy coughing?

You mention it's fading.... if so, no worries. Don't know your age but these things become more frequent the older we get. lol

Thank you for the responses! For the record, I'm 24. :)

Yes I made a facebook status about it today as well and a friend said it's to do with the fluid between the muscle layers on the ribs, apparently it's common. I've not had any colds recently, this pain randomly happens but it could be bacteria that only causes this pain, but doesn't build up to a cold or anything.

Funnily enough, I remember this happening more often when I was younger.

Is it a sharp pain... where it kinda feels like if you breathe in hard enough you can "pop it" out the pain?

If so, it may be plueresy... it's where the fluid in between the inner and outer linings of your lung(s) is causing more friction.... An ER doc (I got it so bad my right arm was in so much pain when I was about 24) just told me to take some advil and drink plenty of fluids and it will go away. I find I get tiny flair ups every once in a while when I'm getting dehydrated.

I have had something similar and k8blujay2 is describing exactly what my dr told me it was. The fluid is so thin that the inner and outer lining of the lungs are somewhat "sticking" is what my dr said. She said that I should make sure I'm getting enough water. I havent had it in almost a year (knock on wood)....

I had something similar and went to the doc. They said it was "costalcondritis" which is the inflammation of the cartilage by your ribs. It usually goes away within a few weeks and is common in middle aged people. Mine was hurting so bad, so I thought it was my heart and had it checked. Maybe this is what you have

I've had this too the past few days. It's mostly been after I've had a massive dinner, but I have had the beginnings of a cold lately too so that could be it as well. It feels fine most of the time, but then can hurt/bother me if I sniff my nose, or I'm lying/sitting in a certain position.

I haven't been doctors, it hasn't really been going on for long enough for me personally to warrant that (hate going doctors) I would say if you've been and had it checked though, it's likely nothing to worry about, but if it carries on maybe seek a second opinion?

I've often felt like I can breathe it away but it gets so painful I begin to see lights lol. The more I breathe in, the worse it gets. Although sometimes I've accidentally breathed in too fast, thinking it was gone, and it pops away.

HeidiMighty, I was just informed about that pain after a meal specifically, apparently that could be your gall bladder. Please see a doctor, it's the "after a massive dinner" part that really reminded me of what I was told today.
