Motivation WANTED :)

HI everyone, I have been trying to lose weight off and on for years now. I have tried everything and just cant stick with it. I have a wonderful husband and 2 small kids. I need to do these for myself and them. I need to be healthly so I can play with my children and not just sit and watch them. PLEASE..If anyone out there can send me some encourgeing words, that would be great. I understand its my decision that I have to choose to follow through with, but I need alittle help to get started. thanks :)

    You can do this. It's a matter of making a decision. You decide you're going to do it, and you do it. Then, once in a while when you overindulge, you don't throw up your hands and say screw it, you get back on the hore and keep going. You've come to the right place. I've never seen a place so supportive as MFP! You can do this!! You just have to want it!

    Alot of it is making a decision to do it and even if you overeat or dont exercise for a day or 2 , decide to start again. As long as you keep trying you will eventually get there. When people dont make it it is because they quit or give up. You can do this. I have tried many diets but this site has really helped me be accountable and pay attention to what I am eating and the amount of calories I am burning. All forms of exercise count, just get moving. Even if you just take the kids for a walk to the park .I hope this helps

    Hello, I wanted to share my experience with dieting and trying to loose weight. I have never been thin, always chubby and fat. I started with weight watchers and then went to atkins, and then back to weight watchers, then slimfast, then back to weight watchers and then Optifast, then jenny craig then weight watchers.... all over about about 5 or 6 years, and I did loose alot of weight and then quickly gained it all back... in dec of 2007 I met my husband and was not trying or caring about losing the weight. I needed a break from dieting. and then in 2008 I gave birth to my daughter and hit my all time high of 260 something.... and then slowly for the past year my weight slowly went up to 273 and about 3 months ago I decided that i really needed to change and be a healthy weight mainly for me but also for my family... Just like you I wanted to be able to play more with both of my children and feel great about me. So I started slimfast and found about this website... which has helped me stay accountable though the good and the bad... But most of all I realized that its not a diet is a life change... Its learning to only eat when I am hungry and even if I dont have a great day counting my calories any ways and trying not to beat myself up about it....

    My words of encouragement would be finding one thing out of your day that you can be proud of and sharing it with some you that supports your weight loss. Also I noticed it helped me to take a before picture and then after you lose weight take another so you can compare, we will not see the loss because we look at ourselves every day but this way we can be able.... I have also set mini goals. so like i have met my first mini goal of losing 10% of the total weight i need to lose... not my next goal i to lose the next 10% which for me is 13 lbs...

    You go girl! Remember not to beat yourself up when you fail (I should talk)! You can do it. Be as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside. I look back and remember I was cute, thinner and young looking. Now I feel all those things but it doesn't show in the mirror for me lately. However, I know it is possible to get back that energy and that youthfulness. I know that when I lose just a few pounds I notice I have more energy. Stick with it girl you can do it!

    There's a poem that I love that gives me motivation.


    The Race

    "QUIT! GIVE UP! YOU'RE BEATEN!" They shout and plead,
    There's just too much against you now, this time you can't succeed.
    And as I start to hang my head in front of failure's face,
    My downward fall is broken by the memory of a race.

    And hope refills my weakened will as I recall that scene.
    For just the thought of that short race rejuvenates my being.
    A children's race, young boys, young men; now I remember well.
    Excitement, sure, but also fear; it wasn't hard to tell.

    They all lined up so full of hope. Each thought to win that race.
    Or tie for first, or if not that, at least take second place.
    And fathers watched from off the side, each cheering for his son.
    And each boy hoped to show his dad that he would be the one.

    The whistle blew and off they went, young hearts and hopes of fire.
    To win, to be the hero there, was each young boy's desire.
    And one boy in particular, his dad was in the crowd,
    Was running near the lead and thought, "My dad will be so proud."

    But as he speeded down the field across a shallow dip,
    The little boy who thought to win, lost his step and slipped.
    Trying hard to catch himself, his hands flew out to brace,
    And mid the laughter of the crowd, he fell flat on his face.

    So down he fell and with him hope. He couldn't win it now.
    Embarrassed, sad, he only wished to disappear somehow.
    But as he fell, his dad stood up and showed his anxious face,
    Which to the boy so clearly said, "Get up and win that race!"

    He quickly rose, no damage done - behind a bit, that's all,
    And ran with all his mind and might to make up for his fall.
    So anxious to restore himself to catch up and to win,
    His mind went faster than his legs. He slipped and fell again.

    He wished that he had quite before with only one disgrace.
    I'm hopeless as a runner now, I shouldn't try to race.
    But, in the laughing crowd he searched and found his father's face
    That steady look that said again, "Get up and win the race."

    So, he jumped up to try again. Ten yards behind the last.
    If I'm to gain those yards, he thought, I've got to run real fast.
    Exceeding everything he had, he regained eight or ten,
    But trying so hard to catch the lead, he slipped and fell again.

    Defeat! He lay there silently, a tear dropped from his eye.
    There's no sense running anymore - three strikes and I'm out - why try?
    The will to rise had disappeared, all hope had flew away.
    So far behind, so error prone, closer all the way.

    I've lost, so what's the use, he thought, I'll live with my disgrace.
    But then he thought about his dad, who soon he'd have to face.
    "Get up," an echo sounded low. "Get up and take your place.
    You were not meant for failure here, get up and win the race."

    With borrowed will, "Get up," it said, "You haven't lost at all,
    For winning is not more than this, to rise each time you fall."
    So up he rose to win once more. And with a new commit,
    He resolved that win or lose, at least he wouldn't quit.

    So far behind the others now, the most he'd ever been.
    Still he gave it all he had and ran as though to win.
    Three times he'd fallen stumbling, three times he'd rose again.
    Too far behind to hope to win, he still ran to the end.

    They cheered the winning runner as he crossed first place.
    Head high and proud and happy; no falling, no disgrace.
    But when the fallen youngster crossed the line, last place,
    The crowd gave him the greater cheer for finishing the race.

    And even though he came in last, with head bowed low, unproud;
    You would have thought he'd won the race, to listen to the crowd.
    And to his Dad he sadly said, "I didn't do so well."
    "To me you won," his father said, "You rose each time you fell."

    And when things seemed dark and hard and difficult to face,
    The memory of that little boy - helps me in my race.
    For all of life is like that race, with ups and down and all,
    And all you have to do to win - is rise each time you fall.
    "Quit!" "GIVE UP, YOU'RE BEATEN." They still shout in my face.
    But another voice within me says, "GET UP AND WIN THE RACE!"

    No matter how many times we stumble all that matters is we finish.

    Just remember, Rome was not built in a day. It didn't take you a day to gain ALL your weight. Slow and steady that is how I look at weight loss. I LOVE this site. You plug in the food you eat and sometimes I think I want something but when I plug it in and look at the calories or carbs, I think twice before sticking it in my mouth.
    There are so many people here that can help you if you need it.

    I think the most discouraging thing is not having fast results when we want to loose weight. I've done the crazy diets, but the only real success is when I make small changes that are lifestyle changes. Keeping a positive attitude and recording your goals is so helpful and keeps you motivated! We are all here for you!
