Lost my way

So I was doing so well. Lost 3 and a half stone, getting to the gym 3 times a week, ran my first 5k. But then lost my way after losing my Dad and almost losing my Fiance. I need to turn a corner and I know it's down to me to get back on track after putting on a stone and a half of what I lost, but my motivation levels are at rock bottom and food has been my comfort through feeling so much pain and I'm struggling to break the habit.
I've come back here. New name, no pictures, anonymous except for the inspirational photograph of the shape I want. I HAVE to get my life, my eating and my exercise back under my control and this is me taking the first step. So anyone that has any advice at the best way to re-motivate and push forward, I could really do with hearing from you right now.

First off, my condolences on your recent struggles. My suggestion is to start slow if your motivation is not where you need it to be. Perhaps start slowly cutting down on your eating and walking a few times a week. When you start to feel stronger mentally, you can up your better eating and increase your exercise. You have been through alot recently and it is better to start off slow instead of becoming overwhelmed and frustrated. You probably know this but exercise decreases depression..just tell yourself you will workout for 10 minutes....you can do this!0

Thanks, that's really great advice. In my head all I'm thinking is I need to get back to where I was and then knock off another stone, whereas smaller targets are probably much better until my head is more settled.0

loriq41 is absolutely right. You definitely need to start slow. I am an all or nothing person. Sounds like you are too. When I'm bad I'm very bad. I can gain weight at the speed of light! But it's much slower going taking it back off. You have been through so much. You said food has been your comfort. I've had the same problem. But it's not comforting you so much as numbing you to the pain of loss. You've lost family and lost touch with a part of yourself. That's a grieving process too. When I go on a sugar binge it doesn't make me hyper...it numbs me. Food may be having the same effect on you. Just don't give up. Even when you're having a bad food day, be honest and write it all down. Seeing it all in black and white motivates me on the good days and holds me accountable on the bad days. If you ever need a cheerleader, I'm here!0

More amazing advice and I'm grateful for it. I'm definitely an all or nothing person and my binging has just gotten ridiculous. I need to just give myself some simple goals and build from there.0
