Cohen's failure

I have done Cohen's for 4 weeks. The last week has been totally off the plan but eating healthy. I lost 7.5kg in the first three weeks on Cohen's but really really can't do it anymore. It's so restrictive. My lovely mum has been lecturing the hell out of me as she thinks I should just stick it out but she has no idea what I can't eat, which is nearly everything lol.

This has got me feeling really down about myself and how much of a failure I am. Surely I can lose weight without having to be so restrictive... balanced diet and exercise perhaps? Although in saying that I have tried that before but get carried away with yummy stuff and don't lose anything...

Anyone else fallen off the Cohen's wagon before??

I dont have a clue what Cohens is.

But I can definitelysay that calorie counting (which ultimately will lead to healthier choices and exercise if you stick with it) DOES work. Set your goal to eat less than you burn (research online BMR calculators) and log your choices everyday. I used the recommended calorie goal here on MFP for losing 1 lb a week, and then also logged my exercise separately. I stayed within 100 calories of this goal, and I lost weight slowly and steadily. Just be sure to choose an activity level that does not include your exercise, and plan on logging your exercise onto the website sepaately. It works! And it is very flexible!

I lost about 40 lbs and have maintained a healthy weight for 3 years.

"•Massive and rapid weight loss (the average monthly weight loss on the diet Program could be between 7 and 15 kilograms)"

"The three hormones most central to rapid weight loss are; Human Growth Hormone (HGH), Insulin and Serotonin."

My only question is: Are you being supervised by a doctor while losing this quickly?

This will probably get this thread deleted. Sorry, I think there are better and definitely more healthy ways to lose weight.

Most people who think they have done it before haven't really done it before for a sustained time. And thin people don't feel like failures for not following a plan that was designed to make them miserable. Give yourself a break. Beating yourself up is what fat people do!! Trust me!

I have no idea what Cohen's is, but it sounds terribly restrictive and hardly sustainable.

    Yes you can!

MFP is a great tool if you use it correctly. Enter your information and weekly loss goal realistically and accurately. Then, eat your calories - the daily goal you're given has a deficit built into it, so even if you eat to goal every day and do zero exercise, you'll lose weight. If you do exercise, log it, and eat those calories back, at least a portion of them, so you're not creating too large a deficit.

Weigh and measure food as accurately as possible - a food scale is a wonderful tool to have! Track your exercise as accurately as possible - a good heart rate monitor with a chest strap is another great tool to have.

Eat your calories, drink water, exercise, take rest days, get good sleep, and have patience. MFP is a wonderful tool and it works great if you use it properly and stick with it. Each day, look back over your diary and see where you made good choices and where you might be able to make improvements. What gives good protein and nutritional value, and what wasn't really worth the calories? It takes time to change your eating habits - heck, I logged my 800th straight day this morning, and I'm still fine tuning and making changes to what I eat. But I've made a lot of changes through my consistent logging, and over time you learn better habits, and how to eat well while still enjoying foods you love.

A super restrictive diet is no fun, and only temporary - no one can live on that forever! Temporary changes will get you temporary results. Take the time to make the permanent, sustainable changes that you will stick with, lose the fat and keep it off.

    Good luck!

You can eat anything you want while losing weight, unless your doctor tells you not to or you know you are intolerant to it.

Set your goals up in MFP and eat however many calories you are allowed, PLUS eat back any exercise calories. Anytime you eat at a calorie deficit your will lose weight.

    Diets are silly anyway.

Cohen's diet sounds like Fight Club, apparently the first rule is to not talk about it or share anything on your plan.
  • Yeah they do like you to keep things pretty confidential. I guess that's because it costs so much money they don't want people getting the advice for free. Cohen's isn't restrictive forever, after you hit your goal you get a re-feeding program that re-introduces other foods, but that'll be like 7 or 8 months away. Not sure I can do it for that long. Hell I caved after 3 weeks lol. I even craved simple things like carrots and roast veges!! Not to mention a nice cup of tea with milk in it (makes me sound 80 years old lol)

Eat at or just under your calorie goal. Lose weight. I promise you that barring a medical condition, it really is that simple.

Every one else is right. You don't have to restrict a single food item. You just have to make in fit into a daily calorie goal that has a deficit. There is no magic pill, no magic diet, no food restrictions. Eat less, move more and you will lose weight.
