How do you know if you're in ketosis?

Curiosity question for low carb-ers
I see people saying things like:
do this and see if you're in ketosis,
or
you can try that and see if it puts you out of ketosis...
How do you know once your body hits ketosis?! Or leaves ketosis? Or just steps out for a pint for a couple hours??

I have never heard of this in a weight loss topic (partial newbie here)! I guess you could buy some ketone strips. I had to use them when I had gestational diabetes. But I'm assuming since this is part of dieting there's probably another way0

^ Ketone strips. Only way to make sure.0

isnt the chronic bad breath and bad BO a definite sign that you're in ketosis?0

I'd say those are indices, not definite evidence.0 -
How to smell a crossfitter from a mile away...isnt the chronic bad breath and bad BO a definite sign that you're in ketosis?0

My pee is usually a good indicator - it has a stronger smell, and looks different. The keto sticks are good for confirmation but after a while you'll get better at knowing you're there. There's a keto group on here and /r/keto over at reddit is also good for advice and support.0

Don't you also get 3 days of incredible lethargy?0

I heard you have a metallic taste in your mouth. Don't know first hand, this isn't something I have tried.0

Keep you carbs under 30g a day you will hit Keto0

I've been in ketosis for about 5 weeks. Lethargy? I sleep less now...which is why I've been up since 4. I'm never really tired. The bad breath has gone away, but the keytone strips show I've been in ketosis every day. My diary is open and my carb intake has been below 10g for several weeks. I've not tested to see how many carbs it would take to bring me out of ketosis. My post workout Iso pure protein shake does bring the level down, but not all the way out.
Edit to say below 10g a day...not the whole week.0 -
I didn't feel lethargic, but I did get a bit grumpy after 3-4 days with carb withdrawal, then I started feeling great; I didn't feel like snacking as I was satiated by all the tasty food I was eating and the weight just dropped off. (yes, I know, water weight blah blah blah) I can ride my bike for 3-4 hrs at a time without hitting the wall as my body has a load of energy stored.
I need less sleep, love exercising and the food I eat fills me up - ever think there was something wrong when you eat a load of rice or pasta and feel hungry an hour later? That's your body telling you you're eating the wrong fuel.0 -
You'll know you're in it when you feel the need to brag about it to the whole world all the time.0

 It's like an exclusive club. IFing is another one.0 -
You may want to asks your questions about keto in the keto group. Otherwise you end up with the two remarks above that don't really answer your question but instead only give sarcasm. These kind of people are not helpful in any way.0

Don't you like them? It just doesn't seem healthy not to eat veggies.
I can understand about the fruit but I know there are veggies on Atkins type diets-especially after the first week.
I'm not being mean-just honestly wondering.0 -
I don't really like them...I should eat them though you are correct.
Edit: I do use a supplement called greens, all though I don't log it all the time. Suppose to be the equivalent of 8 servings of vegetables for the micro nutrients only and has almost no crabs <1g...It is also my probiotic.0 -

Could you give a link for this supplement. I don't like veges either.0 -
http://www.myitworks.com/shop/product/303/
That is the supplement, but you'd have to find a distributor. I am a distributor in my area, but I don't advertise that here...I'm actually a rather poor distributor as I mainly use this stuff myself instead of selling it.0
