Phentremine?

What's everyone's take on Phentremine? My doctor wanted to prescribe them to me but my insurance company wouldn't pay for them and there was no way I could afford them @ the time. I've heard awesome stories from them, and not so awesome stories from them. My doctor told me that is the only weight loss pill that his office uses so I'm not so scared of using it if the doctor backs it. Anybody ever tried and had success? Of course I would continue MFP and my excercise, but I could use all the help I could get.

My take is that I wish my dr would prescribe them. When I (tentatively) asked about it she looked at me like I had asked her to amputate my arm.0

They are not expensive- my friend has a prescription and she pays about $6.00 without insurance.0

I've had a lot of success with Phentermine.
I went to see my doctor after losing 20 lbs and hitting a 6 week plateau. He ran the gambit of tests and wrote me the scrip for Phentermine 37.5 mg/day. I researched it quite a bit before I started taking it. I ended up taking it daily for 3 months, then I took a month off, and I'm about to finish my last month.
I have been very successful with it. Since I started taking it in October 2011, I've lost over 50 lbs.
It works best when combined with a committed diet and exercise program. You are also more likely to keep the weight off this way. I read a ton of horror stories about people saying they'd lost a ton of weight with Phentermine, then gained it back and then some once they stopped. What did they all have in common? They didn't diet or exercise!
The medication is designed to teach you healthy eating and exercise habits. Once you learn those habits, you are expected to continue the behaviors after you stop taking the medicine. The effectiveness wears off after some time. This is why doctors don't usually prescribe it for more than three months at a time. Personally, it has lost almost all effectiveness for me. So I plan to finish this month and lose the rest of the weight (less than 10 lbs) on my own. I figure if I lost 20 before, I can lose ten now!
Deciding whether or not to take Phentermine is very personal and you should talk about it in detail with your doctor. There are some risks (raised blood pressure, heart palpitations), none of which I experienced, but you have to figure out for yourself if the risk of those side effects outweighs the benefits of the medication.
Good luck!0 -
My friend lost about 20 lbs in 2 months which is awesome!0

Phentermine is a form of an amphetamine, so it basically speeds up your system and suppresses your appetite, like any other amphetamine. People that are on ADHD meds have similar side effects because they are in the same class of drug.
Personally, I would not take phentermine unless it was a last resort, short of weight loss surgery. While you are on it, it will suppress your appetite, but for most people, when you stop taking it, your appetite will return. If you haven't learned how to control your urges and cravings, you will most likely gain the weight back. (This isn't the case for all people, but a lot.) In my opinion, I would rather teach myself how to control what I'm putting in my body without the use of drugs or supplements, but as someone said above, it's a personal choice, so look critically at all the reviews and know what you're getting into before you start taking them. Some people are on them for years because they don't think they can eat normally without them.
Phentermine can be relatively expensive, and most insurance plans won't cover it unless your doctor states that it is medically necessary and not just requested (and even then sometimes, it's not covered). At my pharmacy, depending on the strength, a 30 day supply runs from $30-90. (I know some of this information because I am a pharmacy technician.)0 -

Where can I buy.the.phenetremine pills
They must be prescribed by your doctor in order to get them. As far as I know Canada and the US don't sell it over the counter. A doctor will only prescribe them as a last resort when you can prove you've done the diet and exercise thing (properly) with little to no results.0 -
It is not expensive at all with out insurance. Most insurances will not cover it. It is amazing stuff that really works! I AM NOT KIDDING< IT WORKS!0
-
It's probably cheaper to buy meth or PCP.....KIDDING, so don't do that please.
Diet pills don't teach you how to maintain healthy eating habits.0 -
Tried it - lost a lot of weight- and guess what GAINED IT ALL BACK PLUS SOME. Do not try it. It is not worth it. I have lost almost 60 pounds without it - just good diet and exercise. I have 46 more to lose and am doing fine without taking speed.0

Careful.... the "P" word is a touchy subject around here... you have to hide from the trolls when talking about it. Seriously though it is awesome stuff and if your doctor is suggesting it by all means. It is inexpensive and seriously helps with appetite with no crazy side effects ... I had more energy and I did have a dry mouth but that just made me drink more water so it turned out fantastic!0 -

Take ur prescription to Costco or K-mart, the pill works, if you take it as directed. be carful because this pill can cause heart problems later in life. If your doctor is offer this pill ask questions and ask your self if you feel you need a diet aid. In the past I used the pill at first I saw great results but that changed and I gained it all back. all be aware this pill can add to a quick temper, if you live or work in a stressful environment. The pill works but there are side effects. Good luck0

I had some good results, but like anything else, once you stop taking them the benefits are gone, and you can gain the weight back. Some things I learned: If you're going to get them, ask for Adipex 37.5. They're not the time-release capsules, so you can break them in half for a smaller dose. The time release messed with my sleep. I liked getting it into my system early in the day to control all day urges, then eat a good dinner and be able to sleep. I learned that taking a day off each week helped with the effectiveness of them (I guess I got used to them?) and also kept the irritability to a minimum. Keep in mind phentermine and its derivatives are basically pharmaceutical speed, and they do impact your nervous system (anxiety, irritability etc.). Some Drs. specialize in this type of medication (gynocologists believe it or not) and will give them to you for a limited period of time (3 months or so) with monthly visits to check blood pressure etc. That can add up $$$ so if you're going to do it, commit for a month or two, kick some butt, and go off of them.0

lolololol....you mean the "trolls" that are against magic cure-all diet pills? yeah...you mos def want to hide from those people.0 -
I tried these a while ago bought from the UK. They suppressed my appetite, made my mouth dry in the first instance, made me feel a bit jittery after a few days and by the 5th day I had to stop taking them cause they made me paranoid and I felt like I HAD LOTS OF SECRETS!
I gave them to my friends Mrs and she swears by them and has lost 2st in 6 months. Who knows.0
