Picking right items

Hi there... when adding food that I am tracking, how should I be determining which database entry to use? I am more so speaking about generic items... for example search for the term "rib eye steak"... there are a ton of results. I know if there is some kind of brand, you obviously pick that....
I just find it a little frustrating as the stats can range so much on "rib eye steak"; and I have no idea what to mark down.
Thanks!

hi,
I would look for the options that do not have a star beside them, that means that they were put there by MFP and not entered in by other users. Hope this helps, good luck!0 -
best thing to do is find one that is equivalent to the portion you are eating. Food scales are marvelous!0

@wpatart - Good to know, I didn't realize that is what that meant. I will watch for that.
@ livelaughlove - I use a food scale extensively (so much that I bring it with me to work - when i buy lunch from a grocery store). The problem is though, when you search for something, and you may have 3 - 4 "generic" entries, and depending on which one you pick, your 100 G of whatever may have a huge caloric difference.....0 -

^^This, or enter it yourself. Most foods come with the nutritional fact on the package! You can also use the barcode scan option, I find this works more times than noneGood Luck!!!
