What is "holidays" to you? How many days?

There are so many people who gain massive amount of weight (like 20lb) during the "holidays" that it makes me wonder.
What do people consider holidays?
Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years eve. That's 3 days. If you count the day after each one, that is 6 days (tough gaining weight on leftovers hardly seems worth it). Still, most people don't gain 20lb in 6 days. However, if you "holiday" from thanksgiving until New Years, than it is more than possible.
Maybe the key is just to decide ahead of time what constitutes a holiday.
For me, I decided I will eat above maintenance on Thanksgiving day, Christmas day, and New Years Eve. Day after New Years I will eat at maintenance or close to it. That should minimize the damage.

The 'holidays' for me are Thanksgiving and Christmas. But the 'holiday season' extends from Thanksgiving through the end of the year. There will be various gatherings of friends and family where more food and alcohol will be consumed than normal. And for some reason cheese is a big focus - cheese balls, cheese logs, cheese trays, cheesy casseroles. I probably eat nearly as much cheese in Nov and Dec as I do the entire rest of the year.
I typically gain about 7 lbs during this time.0 -

I think this is true for many people, but fortunately for me, I don't have much family or friends, therefore I will only be eating somewhat carelessly on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and possible at each of my husband and I's company Christmas parties (depends if we go and what is served). So 4 days max of allowed eating over my goal.0 -
Halloween, the night before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years Eve, New Years, and one other day in January.0

For me, the "holidays" typically are the days on which they fall on, but since my "holiday" season runs from Thanksgiving to Christmas, and our families meander in and out all season long, I tend to be a little lax-a-daisy on how I eat, because if I don't try something that someone makes or brings, they think I'm offending them. So, I end up putting on 5-10 lbs, because usually the foods that people make or buy are desserts.0

Thanksgiving, Christmas, sometimes the day after both. And this year I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving twice because my bf and I will be travelling to Colorado to my parents' place for Thanksgiving but HIS family is planning to do something the Saturday before since we'll be out of town.
I also have at least two holiday parties scheduled with more potentially on the docket. *sigh* So I'm just going to do what I can to continue eating at deficit to offset the damage they do. Oh and hopefully I'll be back from my hiatus from running (Nursing a sore, potentially injured calf muscle) to also help offset the damage.0 -
The holidays to me will be four different Christmases. They will be Christmas Eve which usually consists of steak for dinner and then cake for dessert, and then Christmas Day where we will have a nice breakfast and then little snacks throughout the day. We will also host two different Christmases for my dad's side of the family (yes it's a big family). Those dinners vary each year but there are always lots of yummy sweets that only come around once a year. I will also have one day where I will decorate cakes with my aunt (tradition) and then be invited to a cookie party. I will do my best to not go crazy, but I'll exercise whenever I can to do my best to keep my weekly calories in check.
We also celebrate Thanksgiving but I don't really care for Thanksgiving food, so that day will be easy for me.0
