I maintain my weight on more than MFP says I should do so...

I eat around 2000-2,500 calories a day (I get hungry very often) and maintain a weight of around 115lbs. I don't do any formal exercise but my job is pretty active and I walk everywhere so have decent muscle mass. I'd like to lose literally a couple of pounds or so just to get down to my more 'comfortable' weight but when setting MFP goals, it tells me that I should be consuming 1,600 calories to maintain my weight when I can do so with significantly higher calories...so I guess my question is, how do I calculate how much I'd need to lose a little bit of weight as the 1,400 it's recommended me is not gonna happen! Thanks :)

Well, 2000-2500 is a pretty big spread, that 500 cals could make a difference. What number do you hit most often? If it's say, 2200, maybe try setting your goal at 2000 for a month and see how it goes. If you lose, you're good, if not, take it down another 100 cals.

You can manually set your goals - from your home page click Goals > Change Goals > Custom > Continue and enter the new calorie goal.
  • thanks, I'll give it a go! Some of the goals are tooo looowww!

When I started MFP I chose lightly active, the category they have salesperson under. It should have been very active. MFP is pretty much an average estimate.

If I had it to do again I'd have started out weighing and logging what I normally ate for a couple of weeks to be sure how much I was taking in. Then I'd subtract 250 - 500 from that #
