50 years & struggling

I am 50, have two skinny teens, a skinny husband, a full time job, demanding aging parents & a special care home. I struggle to make the effort to have healthy food, made to feel guilty when I leave to exercise or even say I am going to the gym on the way home from work. Today, Sunday, I began braising meat for soup before I left the house for a walk, there were 2 teens, my husband and a friend plus 2 special needs adults in the kitchen, when I returned the meat had burned to a crisp. I had not 'told' them to watch the meat.

So frustrating! Take a deep breath and do something else for yourself today. You can do this0

It sounds like you need a vacation, sweetie. First, don't feel guilty for taking time for you and doing what you need to do to be healthy. If you have 3 other able-bodied people in your household, they need to help out. Second, working out or even a brisk walk to clear you head does wonders for stress. Ultimately, teenagers and men are not programmed to understand what it takes to be a Mom... in fact they can't comprehend a lot about your daily life. Perhaps it is time to tell them. Good luck to you and welcome.0

OM gosh sounds like you have a very difficult house and family to care for....well done you for keeping it together x
I do not know what to suggest to help you, only that you need to take time out for yourself....you seem to be putting so much effort into caring for those around you?
Maybe try to think if you are not feeling good and healthy for yourself then you can not keep putting in all the effort and strength, not just mentally but physically also?
Take one day at at a time with the food, introduce new low cal recipes.... slow cookers can be a good help, to save with the over burning stuff.
Other than that, I do not know what to suggest to you0 -

Hmm , I am 50 in March and I make sure I put myself first, this is the time in our lives to do that. they can eat peanut butter sandwiches for dinner if they don't want to help out , or order healthy takeout. You need to put yourself 1st, I also worked fulltime and had a special needs son to take care of when he was little, I have all boys, and if I don't feel like cooking they can make it themselves or have cereal for dinner, menopause is either coming for you or already there, making it that much harder to lose weight. If you want add me as a friend and see what I do, I am on here everyday..Goodluck hun:flowerforyou:0

Sounds like you need to train your family to start helping out more.... maybe assign jobs to them since they're too comfortable to get up to watch the food that ended up burning. What about a family meeting and a job list posted on the fridge? There's no reason for you to run yourself ragged while they are sitting around. Many years ago, I heard a great saying: the job of a parent is to prepare their kids to live life on their own. You could start by assigning them to cook some meals.
You can turn your health around. Each day we have a fresh 24 hours to make efforts.0 -
A tough one. I imagine it will not be easy to get them to start to help out more, especially if they're used to slacking around all the time. I guess you need to find a way to get them (especially the teenagers) to help out more. When you figure that out, please let me know!0
