Only 5 lbs to go....I've hit the PLATEAU!!!

I'm about 5 lbs away from my goal and I have been stuck at the same weight for almost 2 months. What's a little disheartening is my good habits are at their peak. I haven't been this consistent...since ever!

Let me tell you what I am doing...

1. Low carb, high protein diet. Balanced I'll say. Breakfast is always 1 egg, 1/2 avacado on toast, and banana. Lunch is tuna salad on toast, veggie burger, or chicken sausage with a greek yogurt and an apple. Dinner is some sort of meat/fish and veggie. I consume about 75-95 grams of protein a day. I shoot for .75/lb.

2. Consistently working out 4 days a week. Was doing only cardio all summer and now I'm doing mostly circuit weight training with a little cardio.

3. Drinking alcohol less.

By the way, I'm 28 and 5'2 at 131 lbs. Looking to get down to 126 and maintain with a bit more toning. According to most forums, I'm doing what I need to do, but there isn't much more to take away. Please share whatever has worked for you by either diet change or a supplement. Cleanse?

Just for the next few weeks, Try no alcohol till Thanksgiving, switch out the toast for a sweet potato or more protein for both breakfast and lunch. Try just adding more steps to your day and maybe add yoga on the days you don't do weight training. It's all about trying a few different things to the routine. I have found maintaining and adding lean muscle but the same weight requires learning how to plateau!

It took me like 4 months to lose the last 5 pounds. Hang in there!

I agree with pkw58. Try to change things up---maybe try some HIIT workouts, spinning, just anything that's different from what you've been doing. Bump up your water, too and try to watch the salt. Good luck!!!!

What is your calorie intake. Sometimes a plateau is a sign you need to eat a little more to jump start the metabolism or feed the exercises you're doing. 2x I added 150-200 calories daily and saw a loss the very next week.
  • I am small and 5 lbs is 5% of my body weight so this is hard to lose and makes a big difference. Really focus - no alcohol, low calls and it will come off. The real issue is maintaining. This is the hard part. I have to be very diligent in my routine or on come the lbs. If I have extra one day, I really get serious the next week. This is a lifelong process.

^ All good advice above there.

The diet and lifestyle you have described sounds extremely sensible, and given that you are consistent in your habits I don't think doing anything drastic will be helpful in the long term. Cutting back on the drinking (if you want to) might help speed things up, but I think if you keep doing what you're doing then you'll start to see a loss again.

And I'd say a definite no to the cleanse! That would be in my 'drastic' category and the last thing you want to do is binge at the end of the cleanse (a typical response) and lose heart totally.
