Petites

I am 4'11. It doesn't matter what any one says about calorie intake; if I eat over 1000 calories a day, then I am consistently gaining weight. I'm curious to hear from other petites in this situation:
What do you eat to keep yourself satisfied/satiated?
How do you battle the afternoon slump?
How many meals do you eat a day?
What do those meals look like?
What have a treat look like?
What do you eat for breakfast? (I always eat something healthy like an apple and cheese stick, but after I swim I'm always craving something heavy and full of calories)
And possibly most importantly: How do you handle your eating around normal sized people? I cannot eat like others, yet I do. I know the right answer, "just don't do it" but it isn't that simple. When you go out with friends, with you sit down with your husband at dinner (who eats an entire pizza and is still UNDER weight!) how do you handle your own eating without feeling like you are starving yourself?
Frustrated today!!

Fellow 4'11er here.
What do you eat to keep yourself satisfied/satiated? Smoothies, fruit, veggies, etc.
How many meals do you eat a day? 3 square meals and 2-3 snacks
What do those meals look like?
Breakfast: cereal with banana or
Toast with banana
Coffee
Lunch: fruit and veggie protein smoothies
Sandwich
Leftovers
Chicken salad
Dinner: chicken and potatoes
Spaghetti squash and quinoa
Soup or stew
What have a treat look like?
Ice cream
Microwave popcorn
Despite what you said, I don't think you should eat below 1200 calories. I've lost almost 40 pounds eating over 1200 calories a day. Being petite doesn't mean you need to eat less. Good luck!0 -
I'm just over 4 11. I generally keep breakfast light, usually cottage cheese, almonds, hard boiled eggs, string cheese. Lunch varies, mostly leftovers or salad or sometimes just deli meat. Dinner varies. I do better keeping carbs low to moderately low. It's a good day when protein is more than carbs. Generally eat around 1350 calories and average about half a pound loss a week.0

I'm a bit taller, but still short, and eat a bit more, but the key to staying satisfied for me is focusing on proteins and quality carbs-- whole grains and produce. A donut or a bagel won't make me the littlest amount full, so an egg on a whole grain english muffin with pepper jack cheese is a better choice.
My husband is 6'4 without weight problem. I prepare dinner, and really, I'm satisfied eating less as long as I stick to a formula of meat + side. I'd feel cheated if he ate 5 slices of pizza while I got to eat 1, but I don't think about looking longingly at his extra steak. Mine has me full.0 -
I'm 4"11, 23 and 118 pounds. I don't usually do 1200 cals, but I put on some weight over my holiday and I have graduation in 2 weeks, so I'm doing it at the moment, if you add me as a friend you will be able to see my diary.
I'd also say that I can lose weight on much more calories, and if I was in your position and actually gaining weight above 1000 calories I'd see a doctor/ nutritionist as something could be wrong.
I'd also check out eat more to weigh less group on here.0 -
I'm three inches taller, but I eat significantly more without gaining weight. If you want to boost your resting metabolic rate, I'd recommend lifting heavy to put on some lean muscle mass. It'll help you burn more calories even at rest.0

5'2 here ... Please do a quick forum search on "replenishing glycogen stores" ... It may explain some of the weight gain you see when upping your calories from 1000 to something like 1200 or 1300 ... That being said, exercise ... when you exercise, you earn more calories to eat (You do know you should be eating back exercise calories, right?)...
ETA: If you are feeling cold all the time or are abnormally fatigued, in addition to you weight issue (because hypothyroid is WAY more than just weight, it effects every body system), you may want to go have some blood work done to check your thyroid levels ...0 -
I'm almost 39 and I finally found THE thing that works for me.
Ditto:
1. I'm 4'11" also.
2. Have been dieting forever, tried everything, and used to gain weight w/ anything over 1200calories, so I felt like I had to diet ALL THE TIME, since it's a JOB to make sure your calories are allocated correctly EVERY DAY.
So this is the combo I've found and I feel like I want to share it w/ everyone.
I wish I had found this/tried this sooner.
I'm starting week 6 tomorrow. Been such an EASY 5weeks of "dieting".
A. I lift heavy, 3 times a week ~40minutes, 1 HIIT (hill run/walk or rowing or burpees/pushups) for ~20minutes, and walking/gardening, etc, and 2 days off.
B. I do 5:2 FAST diet, where I eat my TDEE (~1700-2000 calories) for 5 days and on 2 non-consecutive days of 500 calories.
- my goal is to get off my cholesterol drugs.
I EASILY lost 2.5 pounds in 5 weeks, and I only have 3 more pounds to GW.
You know how hard it is to lose weight/inches when you don't have a lot of weight to lose?
Yes, this diet allows me to eat a "normal" amount of food, not just rabbit food.
AND I can totally SEE a difference w/ lifting, compared to all those years of just steady-state cardio.

I wish someone had told me about this sooner.
I'm on my way,

Thank you all for your thoughts. I appreciate it!
-Yes! I do eat my workout calories back!
-It's interesting to see what everybody eats......I think (no I KNOW) that part of my problem is I don't eat enough of the right things, so I don't end up feeling satisfied.
-AbbsyBabbsy-So glad to know I'm not the only woman with a weight problem whose husband is the exact opposite! You're absolutely right, and I never thought about it that way. I do not want extra food when I cook a good meal and give him more......it's really only when we're eating the bad stuff (like pizza) when I feel cheated.
-This is the second time today I have been told to go check my thyroid (for a reason not related to weight). I'll have to put that on my list for winter break.
Thank you everyone for letting me have a little meltdown, and responding to it! That's one of the reasons I really enjoy this website. You all "get it".0 -

I'm barely pushing 5'2 and have no problem losing on 1600. I do lift heavy which may play a role in how many calories my body burns. Plus forget that mess, I like to eat and 1200 isn't going to cut it for me.0
