Nutritional deficency/ies in my diet/regular eating habits?

Since June '12 been in general sticking to 1300 calories daily and so went from 72kg to 54kg (height : 161cm). I've been overweight most of my life and so still adjusting to new sensations with my body: one of those being Pre-PMS cravings...

1 to 2 weeks before my period I usually have some sweet/chocolate/junk food cravings and tend to overeat by up to 600 calories daily. Nothing dramatic... However this month has got completely out of hand... by 2000 to 4000 calories excesses :/ (this takes the cake or so to speak...) almost daily since the last 10 days... I finally got my period today however I'm suspecting I'm probably having some deficiencies in my regular diet as here I've been having some serious cravings for junk food (chocolate chip cookies, chocolate, peanut m&ms, icecream, granola, eat tea spoons of honey or even sugar if i dont have junk food in the house) and carbs mainly (french fries and bread + butter and nutella).

I also skipped my period last month... but could be due to stress as I moved abroad for my studies this year and the doctor mentioned this is normal in regards to the change of environment, but wondering if skipping my period just made my hormones even "crazier" and in turn made me want to eat more...

My period finally arrived today and I vowed to go back to jogging tomorrow and eating clean... now that I have my period, my hormones and will power should be better now, and since yesterday I started to take some multivitamin pills.

If it's always a PMS thing, you could try evening primrose oil. It's supposed to help regulate female hormones, although there's no great evidence base to support this.

Personally, I'm giving it a three month trial for PMT. I'm a couple of months in and haven't made my mind up yet, but MAYBE it's making a slight difference?

I've always been a really bad binge eater when I'm PMSing. Recently I tried this whole "gluten free" thing and honestly, a lot of my food cravings went away when I eliminated bread, pasta, crackers, and gluten. For the first time EVER I was able to keep my cravings in check and satisfy them with healthier things. Maybe try and being extra healthy for the next month, and watch your carbs. Good luck!

If you are only on 1300 calories a day then the deficiency in your diet is probably calories. That's why your body is trying to tell you to eat as much as you can.

    THIS.

Your BMI os 20 you should be eating at maintenance level now which would be around 1800 calories a day. Doing what your doing long term will only cause damage

BMI not always accurate you have to go with what your body is tells you is right weight
No but its a pretty good guide. Using some common sense should tell anyone that someone of that height and weight is unlikely to need to lose and more weight and needs to eat more especially with those sort of symtoms. Thats what seems to be missing a lot in these sort of posts common sense. We can all slam BMI but it is still a guide to be used in conjunction with other tools. Going on feel is not a good guide. Those with eating disorders go on 'feel' all the time and look where that gets them

I get fed up on MFP with people enabling others to make themselves sick by supporting such ridiculous and unhealthy weightloss and exercise regimes.

Everyone, thanks for your insight! yeah I think it could definitely be related to just not getting enough calories. With my previous week's binge/prepms symptoms I gained 3 kgs (probably most is just water weight) so crossing fingers to get back to my regular weight by next week and increase my calories to 1600 to avoid this kind of bingeing from happening again
