Injured Knee- unable to do normal exercise routine

Hi,

I injured my knee on Friday and am not able to do my normal exercise routine until it feels better (however long that will be)
I normally exercise 3-5 times per week.
My question is, when unable to exercise, should a person just consume their BMR's worth of calories so they dont gain weight?

Cheers!

Note quite. You would reduce your calories by the amount you burn from exercising.
BMR is calories burned if you were in bed all day. I assume you're doing more than that.

By the way, you can do upper body strength training with a knee injury. You do lift weights, right?

You'd eat your normal calorie goal. There just won't be exercise calories to add to it. MFP already has your deficit built into your daily goal.

If you can access a heated pool, you may be able to keep exercising, or at least start exercising sooner than you expected to. Running in a pool burns a great deal of calories and engages lots of muscles while the water takes the stress off the joints.

In the meantime, use one of the many website resources to calculate your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) based on sedentary status. Stay below that number and you should not gain weight during your rehab.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the replies, guys.
Yeah, i do weights :) (Am pretty sooky about missing out on squats for X amount of time, though)

Pool idea is great, will give it a go tomorrow.

Thanks again for all your great advice.
