Hi Vicki!
I am in the same boat as you. I have over 100lbs to lose also, and know exactly what you mean. I have struggled SO much this year with my head telling me to eat rubbish constantly.
I can't give you a straight answer because with me, I literally woke up one day and thought "I can't do this anymore.." and I just started. I also had an amazing best friend to talk to who helped snap me out of it. She showed me that only I can change this.. it's up to me.
Every day you wake up is a new start. I always used to think about food, ALL the time. And ate so much junk. I still eat ALOT, but I just eat better. The things I eat aren't junk.. and slowly my mind has learnt to go for the healthier options. I don't even crave junk food that often anymore.
You can do this.. and I firmly believe anyone can reprogramme their mind to eat better. It just takes a bit of time. But if you want to make the change, you can totally do it, without starving yourself.
Good Luck Vikki!

As tough as this sounds - the only way to lose any weight - even 1 lb - is to eat healthy and exercise. The more you exercise, the more muscle you are creating. When muscle is created the body creates additional mitochondria which help to burn more fat and create more energy. This means that you feel better and you lose weight. Exercise coupled with a healthy diet leads to weight loss. I recommend that you not cheat yourself. Be honest about logging in "EVERYTHING" you eat. If you are embarassed because your diet hasn't gotten to be as healthy as you would like, then keep your food diary private. But be honest. when you see what you are eating and how it influences weight gain/loss, then you can change what you are eating. Also, be honest about your exercise - you will begin to recognize when you are really working hard and when you are "just going through the motions." Your body will respond to the hard vigorous workouts. Remember that often when workouts are hard and vigorous muscles tear and then have to repair themselves. they often do this by retaining fluid around them to help protect them from further injury. this can result in temporary fluid retention and "seemingly" weight gain. It isn't real weight gain, though, and shouldn't be given any attention. Just keep working out even though you "appear" to be gaining weight.
Work hard and eat right and the weight will reduce. THIS IS YOUR JOURNEY - you are in charge.
Blessings on your journey to a healthier and happier you.

thanks!
its so nice to know there are poeple going through exactly the same as i am. I have all the good foods in the house at the minute so hopefully if i just dont buy any junk i will do ok.
Its hard to think that the only way i can do it is by being healthy and there is no magic cure but i have a little girl now and i totally hate the thought of her growing up to be exactly the same as i am now.
so i guess all thats left for me to do is stand up and make a change to break the cycle of my family being overweight!
thankyou for your support and your right we can do it!
congratulations on loosing 15lbs by the way !

Here’s what worked for me, research. I spent weeks, maybe months taking in anything I could about the food industry. I read books, watched documentaries, read internet conspiracy web sites, talked to farmer’s at my local market, research, research and more research. I won’t go too deep into the things I’ve learned because I realize I start to sound a little preachy when I do, but I will tell you I see food in a whole different way. The cookies, fast food, and soda that I used to cherish so much now seem like some sort of poison or evil trick by big business. Seriously, I was the person that would literally chew off someone’s head if I had not had a diet coke. I can think of more than one time that I sat in a gas station parking lot hugging my coke bottle between sweet swallows. I would panic if there was less than 2 cold liters and four cans, immediately rushing to the store to replenish my supply. Now, that I’ve been 7 months with no more than a lick, I’m ashamed of that. My suggestion, find your biggest weakness and learn everything you can about it. Pay close attention to how the flavor it and where the raw ingredients come from. It’s eye opening.
Good luck, I hope you find your mojo however you have to do it.0 -
Hi Vicki,
I have lost 65lbs and maintained it now for over two years. I recently got married and went on honeymoon, so have 10 lbs to lose from those excesses. I have done so many diets before then and little change or change for short term. The difference with this time is I have counselling- in terms of body image and why I over eat. There is plenty of psychology books on the subject- i could recommend some.
Main point is understanding your emotional triggers, motivation, building yourself belief and slowing down- thinking/ recording before eating.
I really wish you well on your weight loss journey.
