Weighing more at night?

So this may be an odd question, but has anyone else noticed that on their weight loss journey they gain more poundage a day while losing more fat over all? I eat a lot of food like roasted vegetables, salad, chicken, and soup, which can be pretty heavy, and drink loads more water. I've lost 8 pounds over all since starting here, but find that instead of gaining maybe one pound throughout the day, I gain up to 3 or 4. It makes sense to me; eating a donut could be 300 calories, but eating that amount in chicken breast is considerably heavier. There weren't any articles or studies about it, so I was just curious. Did anyone else notice that they weighed a lot more at night once they started losing weight?

Gather all of the food you are going to eat tomorrow and hold it in your arms, then weigh yourself. This is exactly what is happening, except the food and water are inside of your body. You aren't gaining "fat" during the day due to calories.0

Weight can fluctuate by 2-8 lbs over the course of the day. And most people will be heavier at the end of the day because they still have food in their digestive tract, where in the morning you have been fasting for at least 8 hours! That's why you should always weigh yourself at the same time of day (preferably in the morning after you've used the bathroom and before you've had breakfast).0

A gallon of water weighs ~8 pounds... Every gram of carbs you eat can hold ~4 grams of water.. Then add in sodium.... Etc...
Why do you think people say to weigh in the morning?

I'm actually not worried at all, since I've actually seen that the results outweigh the gains due to just having food in you. If anything, I'm just curious if anyone else noticed the same thing transitioning from unhealthy eating to healthy eating. A lot of people I know will just have a donut or pastry because eggs or soup or another breakfast 'feels heavy' in them. Maybe that feeling is worth fighting through.0

Absolutely. Previous posters pretty much covered it- I always weigh first thing in the morning to get the most accurate picture.0

Weighing at night is one of the most dreadful things lol... But its amazing how much it changes over night and all we have to do is sleep lol.0

I swear, you do not gain weight from morning to night. Weight naturally fluctuates at various time of the day.0 -

This is an excellent point. If I weigh tonight, and again in the morning, I can say, "I've lost weight since the last time I weighed." :bigsmile: Might boost my self confidence just a bit.0
