Morning vs Evening

Hi All,

So a couple of times a week I do RPM, one on a Tuesday morning at 7am, get up at 6am, no breakfast before. The other at 12.15pm on a Friday which is before lunch but after breakfast.

I wear a HRM for both sessions, and the heart rate, and therefore calorie burn is much higher on the Friday session. I can 'burn' only 250-280 calories on a Tuesday morning, but 350-400 calories on the Friday lunch.

Now this is the same instructor, same class, I feel like its the same intensity, I was pouring with sweat this morning, but couldn't seem to get my heart rate above 130, and the second the rest intervals came in it dropped to 110. Fridays it can easy reach 150 and tends to stay above 130 as soon as the warm up is done.

Is there any actual reason for this? I have monitored it over a few weeks and it is always the same pattern. Its very strange.

A lack of sleep can cause a higher exercise HR.

    Do you take any medication?
  • I do take thyroxine, which I would take about an hour before the Tuesday class, and about 5 hours before the Friday class.

Sleep shouldn't be it for me though, I tend to sleep pretty equally each night.

    It really is strange.
  • Anyone else?
