Is this an impossible task?

Hi, I'm trying to lose weight - it's not the first time but in the past I always plateau, get disheartened and eventually give up. This time I really want to achieve my goal. I know that I would feel so proud of myself.

I have lost 7 pounds so far and have plateaued as per usual. This week I have upped my exercise and lowered my calories - it's not sustainable but I really need to see the scales dip below 150! This is always the weight I seem to plateau at.

Does anyone have any tips? I'm feeling like a bit of a failure at the moment.

Any help/support would be really appreciated.

Thanks!
Ruby.

What makes you think you've hit a plateau? Weight loss isn't linear and it takes time for your body to get used to your new weight, even if it's only after 7 pounds. If you were eating at a deficit, then I doubt you actually hit a plateau. Just keep with what you were doing. You lost 7 pounds so clearly it works! The weight will come off eventually. Just be patient. Lowering your calories to an unsustainable goal is not smart in the long term...

Yeah ... (please dont take this the wrong way, I am not being smart, its really this simple)

Stop anything unsustainable, because its unsustainable ... short term goals dont matter

Eat less calories than your body burns .. the weight will come off.

Surrender to a program like the one on here, stick with it, it will happen. Dont lose faith ..

You can totally do it ... just commit ...try 3 months ... what the heck. 3 months of sticking to it, what are you really going to miss if you do that???? (a lot of weight)

Thanks guys! I feel I have plateaued as I have been eating fewer calories than I burn and regularly going to the gym for about 3 months now. I know that 7 pounds is an achievement in itself, I'm just finding it hard to stay on track when I seem to be seeing such slow results. You're right though. I just need to stick with it!
Thanks for your words of encouragement!

    Hi
Show your diary and we can help better
Lot's of people are eating too much sodium
Also you may not be eating enough.

Make sure your settings are good and you are eating back your exercise.
Your deficit is built in and you don't need to go too much below your goal calories.

Also make sure you are logging ALL your food and drinks

Hi. No, this really is not impossible. It is easy to get discouraged when we don't see changes with the scale and when we're discouraged, it's easy to throw in the towel. Really though, it took a long time for you (all of us) to put that weight on and we should all expect it to take a considerable amount of time to take it off. Recently I was lamenting to a fitness trainer that it has taken me over 8 weeks to lose 11 pounds and he told me that that was actually a lot to lose in that amount of time. I, too, want instantaneous results. In the past I have given up when I've hit a plateau but really, what does that do? I regained the weight, my clothes got tight on me again and worse than anything else, I beat myself up psychologically and emotionally. This time I have committed to exercising 6 days a week and eating properly. The weight is coming off, albeit, slowly. I have reconciled myself to the fact that it will take months to lose the 17 pounds I still want to get off and I have committed to losing it in a sustainable manner. I encourage you to do the same and we will both get there. Don't be hard on yourself but also, don't give up!!!!

    Of course its not impossible.

I agree, let us see the diary. It could be too few calories in for the output. It could be many things.

Have you given up processed foods? Pop? any hidden things that could be getting you?
