24 hour fitness staff and customer service BLOWS!

if you are planning on joining 24 hour fitness i would recommend not doing it my brother was teaching me how to lift weights safely by myself so i got him a gym membership along with me one that way he could show me and since 24 hour is convenient i thought why not well the gym doesnt have enough of anything for the sheer size there is leaks everywhere and faulty equipment then i try to cancel my bro's membership last month he went online and called and said it wasnt working well i got charged for the next month even tho we tried well i blamed it on him thinking he was just an idiot but no i tried this month online on the phone and even went yesterday before the cut day for payments to tell them to cancel it but she said there was no manager there with the authority to do that and to come back today well i understand why because today was the day they suck the money from your account well i went in and gave the lady hell but still 24 hour gym is more concerned with money than their own clients so now im overdrafted and a disgruntled client

    I use 24 Hour Fitness. I love the gym (both of them) I use. The staff is always very nice and the equipment and classes are great. It's not fair to say ALL 24 Hour Fitness centers are bad because you had a bad time at ONE.

    The 24 Hour Fitness I used to use was great but just the gym and the staff at the gym. When I called to cancel my membership due to health issues they did the same thing to me. I totally got the run around and was told to call back for days in a row until the deadline to cancel my membership for the following month was past and not only did they refuse to refund my money, the supervisor I spoke to told me that I had not given them sufficient notice and I was charged me for the next month as well. I tried to explain that I had called everyday for 10 days and that if they had canceled my membership when I had originally asked the deadline would not have past but I was wasting my breath. Lesson learned. Now I have a membership to my local rec. center and it is awesome! My property taxes do go toward something useful after all!

    I have no problem with 24 hour fitness. Was a member for quite some time. People were friendly, helpgul and courteous. They had a wide variety of equipment and lot's of great classes, BUT.....................

    When I wanted to quit, because I built a weight room in my home, they made it so difficult to end the automatic payments for membership. Hope you don't go through that. You are really at their mercy. Took a couple of months and many letters. Google it.

    A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of members alleging the company's customer billing practices are deceptive and illegal. The class claims 24 Hour Fitness takes up to two full months to stop charging month to month customers after they quit and turn in their membership cards and that this practice imposes an illegal penalty on all monthly customers who have ended their memberships. The lawsuit also alleges the company collects illegal fees by setting expiration dates on pre-paid, personal fitness sessions.

    I am sorry to hear about your experience with your gym. As with anything there are good ones and bad ones out there some under the same chain name. My first question is why did you choose to join that specific gym if there were issues with leaks, the equipment etc.? I am sure there are competitors in your area.

    With respect to canceling, I am sure you signed a contract and I imagine that contract had the procedures in it for canceling. It usually involves sending something in via certified mail. That protects both you and the gym. If the staff didn't tell you what to do then shame on them. I can tell you that demanding something to be canceled a day prior to it being drafted from your account won't happen.

    I sincerely hope you get your issue worked out and find another facility to work-out at that meets your expectations.

    I got pretty much the same routine as Lisalynn. It is not site specific. It is corporate. The customer service at the specific gym cannot cancel you (They can sign you up, though), so they have designed the process so that they get an extra month or two out of you.

    Google "24 hour fitness cancallation scam". Thousands of similar stories.

    Live and learn. I have a gym in my home now and the service there is fantastic. Owner is great. I'm even sleeping with the owner's wife. That's what I call service !!!!

    Oh man i caused a big scene in the lobby they wont even throw my brother membership onto mine so that i can use it. He's not gonna use it because he moved..this wedding is horse****!
