Fiber

I'm good (for the most part) staying under my calorie goals for the day. What I am bad at is making sure that I eat the proper amount of proteins/carbs/etc. I don't even look at that usually. I could probably be doing twice as good at weightloss if I ate cleaner. My question is about Fiber. I typically go over my fiber amount daily. Is too much fiber a bad thing?

Too much fiber is never a bad thing. You won't lose weight faster by eating "clean" and unless you have some special issue that you need to watch your macros it really doesn't matter. It's about having a calorie deficit. You can lose weight eating Twinkies if you stay in a deficit. Don't make this harder than it has to be.

Thank you! I do try to make it about Calories in/Calories out. I just get freaked out when I see red numbers! I hid my sugar because after eating a piece of fruit I would be in the red. Thought that was ridiculous!

The only macro I really pay attention to is protein, and only really because it fills me up more. As long as I get over 100g of protein a day I let the rest land where it likes.

You won't lose weight any faster by eating clean. And going over your fibre won't hurt at all, but if you are eating a LOT of fibre, make sure you drink plenty of water and keep your healthy fats high. It helps... lubricate things.
  • There are some days that I get 90+ grams of fiber. I haven't had any negative effects.
  • I read somewhere that you can never have too much Fiber. Of course, those with IBS have to watch that, but Fiber is good for you.

tons of veggies and fruit have a lot of fiber, there's brands specific to meet your fiber goals (ex. fiber one cereal or granola bars) etc. look some up!

    ?
unless you get constipation because of fiber overload or intestinal blockage
  • It's true you could lose weight by eating twinkies, but pretty sure the body comp would be different. Also, eating cleaner helps me look leaner when I do. I started a couple days ago on my clean routine and face has visibly gone down in size as well as my belly b/c of the less sodium/additives though I still do usually go over in sugar it is from natural foods. Its all in my food diary :)

Eg. today ate around 52g fiber and pretty sure go over by 20-30g is fine as long as you're drinking enough water. Chia seeds, cocoa powder, flax seeds, and (clean) protein bars have a lot of fiber and it all adds up!

    :)

Your protein goal is low, and so is your fiber goal. As long as you're not getting like 40 grams of fiber a day you're fine.
