Will Power

I eat healthy, all day, for the most part. But I eat something sweet everyday and I ususally eat it in large amounts.
I'm a college student, I lived in a dorm with three other girls.
One who loves to bake, as do I.
I need help with my will power when it comes to avoiding the bake goods. I would love to just omit them from my diet overall but it is hard being around them so often. Other than telling her to just put them away or keep them away from me.
This is also a problem when I bake, I bake and I nibble. A LOT!
So this post has two main questions that I would like to hear your take on.
1- how to say no and walk away from the bake goods when my roommate makes them.
2- strategies to not eat while I'm baking (I try not to bake often, but I do for parties and what not)

What I have done is incorporated the foods I love everyday. Set a moderate calorie deficit for your goals. Set your macro targets so that you are getting enough lean protein, healthy fats, micronutrients and fiber, and eat foods you enjoy. Here's an excellent read if you haven't read it yet.

So plan ahead, don't pick while you're baking, but allow yourself a daily treat, within your goals. It's easier to say no, when you know you can have a moderate portion later.

CHEW GUM! chew gum while you bake! it helps me, especially during the holiday baking times
  • Too bad you are not older as I am 53 and can use the excuse that sugar, alcohol etc causes hot flashes and I was sick of not sleeping so cutting all this out is the only thing for me!!! You can always tell them that you have noticed you don't feel good after too much sugar - causes headaches or anything you want to tell them. This way, you do have an excuse to take a very small taste but not eat the baked goods. When cooking or baking, I chew gum and drink hot tea.

First off, stop baking. Unless you have a team of skinny young men to feed the excess cake to.
Secondly, when your friends bake, eat a normal portion, to be logged in your diary, and then tell small white lies. "Oooh, that's delicious, but I've just eaten, no more for me" , "I would but I've noticed that too much sugar gives me a headache/fat makes me sluggish" etc etc. I have to do this all the time at work, someone always has treats or cake.
Willpower's not too hard, you just have to have enough for a few seconds, just long enough to say no. Try not to not look sad at missing a treat and never say that you'd love a piece but you can't because you're on a diet - that's just an invitation for folks to try and convince you otherwise.
    You can do it!
