Can I really be on a plateau for a year. Lost quite a bit of weight last year through Ill health, managed to keep it off, and decided to try and lose a little bit more. . . . . . But nothing, done weightwatchers, calorie counting, might lose a pound then put it back on, can't figure out where I am going wrong, eat about 1200 cals each day, low salt, no meat, low fat, do 40 mins exercise each day, but still same weight, have toned up abit though, do you think my body is saying this is it. I'm only 5'2" and weigh 130.

I'm going to be quick and to the point.
Yes, you're doing something wrong.
Check portion size, calorie count, and calorie burn.
If you are honest - accurate with calories in vs. calories burned then there is not reason why you haven't lost weight in a year.
If you have been 100% honest with that then I highly suggest that you speak to your doctor.0 -
Not knowing how much you weigh and your activity level, would be hard to say, but after a year, it not a plateau, it is a life style. If you are eating 1200 calories for a year then you need to either see a doctor, or relook at what you are eating. You could be literally starving yourself, and contrary to what most believe, eating less does not = fat loss.
There is a point where your body will literally hold on to every fat cell it can, if it thinks it not getting enough.
try to recalculate your BMR and eat that many calories a day for at least a week and see what happens. Let your body know there food out there and it doesn't have to worry about it.0 -
Check everything you're eating. Don't trust the entries on here with a * by them, that are user added entries and many are way off the mark. I double and triple check my foods. Also check what you're drinking, I had one on my list bewildered that she just couldnt shift anything for a while then just this week found that the squash she was drinking wasn't no added sugar after all and had been consuming an extra 1000-1250 a day just in fluid! Oh and make sure you are logging your drinks, many people don't think about drinks but when a glass of juice is around 100 calories it adds up easily
If you are 100% sure of your calorie intake (open it up for friends to look at if necessary) then it might be time to visit a Dr to check for thyroid issues etc
Good luck0 -

Agreed, prolonged large caloric deficits can affect your metabolism. At the very lease you should eat the 1200 plus any calories you burned through exercise but I would suggest even more. You may gain a few pounds at first since your metabolism has slowed down and you need to get it up and running again. You may also want to have your thyroid checked.0 -
5'2" and 130 pounds is healthy. Since you are already in your ideal weight range maybe focusing on fitness and proper nutrition will get you the results you want. If you are not fueling your body properly you might hold on to that weight. Try working on eating clean (tosca reno's eating clean recharged book might help) and be sure to do a combination of weight lifting and cardio. I would highly recommend wearing a heart monitor to get an accurate reading of your calorie burn. Be sure to actually weigh and measure the foods you eat as well as log the calories. If you do not see a change in your weight in two weeks then you can consider staggering your calories to "trick" your body into letting go of the last couple of pounds. Once you know 100% that you have given it your all by following the eating clean principals and doing a balanced workout including cardio and weight lifting if the scale does not budge then I would recommend you see your doctor. But I would be prepared with a copy of your nutrition and exercise diary when you go.0

My bmr is 1198, I feel as if eating 1200 cals and burning 200-300 cals day (and I use a hrm and try to eat those cals earned) iis just maintaining my weight for me. I know I am in the healthy range for my height, but think it's that desire to lose a few more pounds and nothing happening make me more obsessed with it all LOL.0

Agree with above responses but here is something else to throw in the mix. just what you needed right
.
If you are exercise 40 minutes and only burn 200-300 calories i dont think thats very agressive. Your HRM may not be accurate. Test your HRM monitor (cals burned) vs a quality treadmil at the gym. I split the difference. Secondly, you may not be exerting enough. Again, depends on the level of exertion. Maybe you have hit the wall and need to push harder? Your body may be use to the workouts and needs a change for a jump start.0 -
Good point, have pondered if my body has just got use to the amount I eat and exercise. I can't eat less so maybe I need to ramp up my exercise. Have just bought turbo jam and started going on treadmills at gym. Can't think of much more I can change. Maybe should just throw away my scales and except how I am.LOL0
