HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!!! CANDY CANDY CANDY!!! :-(

So its getting to be that time of year again! I love Halloween and Christmas and Thanksgiving but I hate the pounds that I can gain from them all!
Halloween is just a few days away and candy is all around! Any hints and tips on how not to binge???
We even get candy at our work and thank god that I dont sit by the table that they put it on but its still in my path when I walk by and I find myself reaching in and grabbing some.
I work full time and go to school so it's really hard for me to exercise. It's not that I don't have time to but I have my in-laws staying with me and I can only use my WII in my living room and the only time to really do it is in the morning but they are up and I dont want to do it in front of anyone.
So right now, everything I do is food related. It's how I am managing my weight loss and I take the stairs at work already and try to eat healthier foods.
I have already fallen off the band wagon and gained back 10 of the 34 pounds that I had lost so I am bummed by that but have picked myself up and am getting back on track again!
I just don't want my Christmas picture for this year to look like last year's (as if my head is going to explode!)

I completely feel your pain regarding the candy! I can not begin to tell you how many pieces I've managed to wolf down in the past week thanks to the overlfowing candy dish in our office. I'm so glad that it's just about gone! I forced myself to bring an apple and a banana today just in case I got tempted and the banana seems to satisfy the sugar craving for the most part. I know that's probably not what you want hear, but it's all I have. LOL! And don't beat yourself up about your 10 pounds...trust me we all fall off the wagon but the good thing is that we can get back on anytime we want! Good luck to you!0

i have a huge bowl by the front door. What I did was look up the calories for each little piece and memorized it and then I convinced myself somehow they weren't worth it. MFP has helped me ALOT with this.0

Yes this seems to be the worst part of the year for me to start a diet! There are dishes of candy and chocolates all over my office and my boss brought in some oatmeal raisin cookies. I had a cookie after lunch but I'm chewing gum all day to hopefully help ward off cravings for candy. Unfortunately it's the chocolate I want more than anything and the gum doesn't help with that craving at all! I added up all the candy I had the other day and realized in one handful of 'mini' chocolates I had eaten more fat and calories than in my breakfast and lunch combined! Those 500 calories are the difference between gaining or losing weight.0

I don't know if this helps, but for me it all starts with starting. Once I have a piece I end up having 20. So I just don't even have any, and if I don't taste it in the first place, I can keep up the resistance.
It takes guts to do this. But I want a healthy body. More than I want candy.
Best wishes, I hope the holiday season passes smoothly for you :flowerforyou:0 -
I love halloween.. I love the candy. Let's face it, don't we all? The way I manage it is really simple.. I don't give out treats to the adorable trick-or-treaters.. I give play-dough .. or b-day party gift-bag items... I'm the one that brings in candy TO the office.. but will eat maybe one or two pieces.. and that's IF I bring in stuff that I like.. which I generally don't .. I bring in the candy I don't like so that I'm not tempted to take any myself. Hope that helps..0

I'm with you on the Halloween candy. I can't have stuff like that in the house so it's usually not. But I have little ones and they want to dress up and trick or treat and I think they should. I want to model moderation and restraint, and help them to learn that for themselves, and hopefully they won't have the horrible addiction to sweets that I do.... but it is SO hard for me....
I pray. A lot. For strength to resist, to stay on a healthy path, etc. I stick to my workouts, and I remind myself that I have come a LONG way and I really don't want to mess it up now. And I try not to beat myself up about it when I have a couple fun sized treats.... when Halloween is over I will get rid of the candy I didn't hand out to trick or treaters, and I will NOT take from my kids stash. It's theirs, not mine. Anything they can't eat, like lollipops and hard candy will go to the garbage.
It's mind over matter, every time. Keep reminding yourself how far you've come, how hard it was to get here. You don't want to go backwards. It's NOT worth it. Chew gum, get it out of your sight, get moving, do something to get away from the temptation.
Good luck!
If you want to friend me, we can support each other over the holidays!

me too, now that my food diary is public, I can't hide the fact that I wolfed down two mini chocolate bars for breakfast...and you know damn well someone on my page is going to mention it lol0 -
I have no children, makes it a lot easier to avoid the candy =D
However, there is that moment where you're standing in line at the grocery and you look over and they've got the display burgeoning with bags of Reese's and Tootsie Rolls ... Two for three dollars!
I look at it for a couple of seconds and decide it would be disadvantageous and that I wouldn't really enjoy it ...
When it's already there, like at family get togethers, thankfully there's always a vegetable plate out and I can munch on carrots. I'll echo the idea of having a banana, as that's the one food that helps me to avoid fatty or overly sweet foods off the bat0 -
Come live in Australia with me we dont have halloween or thanksgiving.. I wish we did though0

now doesn't that feel good?0 -
I bought our candy to hand out the other day, but it is locked in the trunk of my car until Sunday night!0

Thanks for all of the encouragement! It's the chocolate stuff that gets me everytime! And I am one of those people that likes to eat something sweet right after a meal. I am trying hard not to eat it but I think I am going to buy some sugar free candy to eat when i am really really craving something sweet so that it will satisfy my urge to eat something sweet!0

I AM A CHOCOHOLIC. I can't give up something I like soooooooooo... I have chocolate day once a week. Chocolate cheerios for breakfast, one hershey's w/almonds sometime during the day and a chocolate vodka drink that night. BUT I still keep my total calorie intake to around 1400 calories for the day. This is a life style change. I can't give up something I love that much, but having it in small dozes keeps me on track. Everyone has to find what works for them. So far, this works for me. I've been doing it for about 10 weeks. The bigger obstical for me is getting thru Christmas, cause everyone expects my "to die for" fudge. If I give it all away the day I make it... might work... we'll see.0

I like your Chocolate day idea. I also like your fudge idea! I think I might do that with my fudge this year too! The faster it is gone the less likely I am to eat it. I bought these sweet indulgence brownie bites at the store and I have to say that they arent bad. They are 60 calories each piece and as a sweet after dinner, one works!0
