Sodium: Evil Foe or Archnemesis?

In most comics there are the plain bad guys, and then the crazy evil one who the super hero spends the entire comic trying to defeat. I'm trying to figure out which one sodium relates to more. I always hear "watch your sodium intake", "that has a lot of salt in it" and "too much sodium isn't good for you". Well too much of anything isn't good for you....that's why it's too much. I just recently started actually looking at how much sodium I ingest, and over the past week...the numbers have not been looking good. According to MFP, I have been over on my sodium intake for the majority of the week! I'm sure that this can be blamed on the deli meat I eat for lunch, and the occasional frozen meal.
What I want to know is, is Sodium the evil upon evil?

Excess Sodium will cause water retention ... which in turn = weight gain.
Over long periods of time excess sodium in your diet can cause high blood pressure as well, which can lead to strokes, etc.0 -
sodium is one of those things we have to have to live. With that said, anything in life you consume too much of is bad for you. Even too much water can kill you.
If you consume excess sodium, it effects not only your blood pressure, but also excess water retention that is bad in lots of ways.0 -
Thanks! I'm still a newbie. Just trying to figure things out a little at a time :happy:0

Sodium is totally an Archnemesis for me! I may win some battles, but the war is never over!
It just seems to be in everything, unless you go totally organic (which I'm sorry...I like some of my processed foods)....0
