So the heat is out in the building I'm working at, and it's cooooold! Looking forward to making some awesome "cold weather food" later. What's your favorite foods/ best recipe?

    Italian Sausage Soup

    http://allrecipes.com/recipe/italian-sausage-soup/detail.aspx

I use Turkey sausage to save some fat but stick to the recipe otherwise. My husband and I love it.
I love baking so I will always serve it with some homemade rolls *yum*

Sauerkraut casserole.. it's very simple - diced ham, sauerkraut (rinsed), mashed potatoes (boxed, leftover or fresh) and shredded cheese.

Put the ham on the bottom of the casserole dish (I used a smaller casserole dish since I'm the only one who eats it), then sauerkraut and mashed potatoes and sprinkle with cheese.

This is a great warm meal and I've frozen it. It can make either 4 large portions when using a small casserole dish or 8-12 medium portions when using a larger dish.

It is NOT a low fat, low cal recipe. But for the bitterly cold, dark northern Ohio January snowstorms I'll batten down the house and make the following corn and sausage chowder recipe. I like to serve it with buscuits, rolls, or even garlic bread.

I like my "end of the week chili" - I throw whatever leftover veggies I have into a pot with some beans, tomatoes and seasonings. Mm! Today I made it with bell pepper, onion, garlic, green beans and cranberries with kidney and black beans =)

soups! I love almost all soups. But maybe my very favorite one for cold weather is the lentil soup recipe from the original Moosewood Cookbook. Crammed with veggies, very lowfat, and yet it tastes rich, meaty and satisfying.

Love this idea! I'm going to try it at the end of the week. I have a feeling the celery and bok choy and carrots will be hanging around for years if I don't!

Chili made with buckwheat from Russian grocery stores. (It must be this--not from a regular grocery store.) it's great with no meat at all--just the buckwheat and beans--but I often include just about 1/2 pound of extra lean ground turkey too.

Just 3/4 cup of buckwheat to a large pot of chili will make the chili so hearty.
