Help - Christmas Gift Ideas for Dad

I need Christmas gift ideas for my father. He’s beyond difficult.

1. Anything he wants… he buys. He “needs” nothing.
2. He no longer has any hobbies. He’s given up flight lessons, woodworking, god forbid he ever exercises… Nothing. Notta.
3. He’s in his 60’s and loves his couch and a bucket full of cashews. That's... it.
4. He loves anything techy/geeky. Everything apple pretty much… mini mac running his TV, ipads, iphones, etc.

Last year we got him an iGrill and a Nest Electronic Thermostat… both huge hits. LOVED them. But this year, I can’t find anything.

Help. Anyone know of a cool new techy toy for pops??

give him the keys to a new sports car...(should run you about $50-$100).

Does he have Apple TV? We had one a few years back and have since switched to Roku. What about getting him a TV series that he may like or Amazon gift card to pay for movie downloading.

He doesn't have an apple tv... he is a loyal cable guy, but I think it's actually a great idea.

The iTunes/Amazon cards are always a win too.

Also, he doesn't drink. I got some cool private suggestions for items related to normal man activities like brewing beer... but he finds that revolting.

Freaking nuts and gift cards it is. Maybe some new socks for good measure *sigh*

Is he a sports or music fan? My dad is difficult to shop for as well, so my sister and I get tickets to sporting events or concerts for him.

No and No. He loves Glee. *LOL*

OK, he does like big productions/plays of sorts.. I could see what's coming up for tickets. That's a great idea...
  • Does he want a gift?

The reason why I ask is that your description reminds me of me. I can be labeled as beyond difficult because anything I want I go buy. I need nothing. I have practically begged my MIL to stop buying me gifts 'I don't need anything. Please stop wasting your money. Spend it on the kids instead". She refuses to listen. So frustrating. Her gifts usually end up in the Goodwill box. I hate clutter and having a house full of stuff I don't need.

Hmmm. If the cashews don't do it, you could give him the video of his wife and daughter with that guy from iowa.

Oh my, I used to have the same problem and I wish I still did. :brokenheart:

Okay, does he like to read? How about a Kindle and a gift card from amazon.com? (You said he has an iPad, but the Kindle is excellent!)

    Definitely the cashews.

What are his favorite television programs? Most networks have online gift stores which sell merchandise related to one's favorite program.

A care basket full of 'man' things, i.e. his fave aftershave or cologne, the cashews, a remote with all the bells and whistles, other snacks, his favorite beverages, socks, razors, his fave magazines, gift certificate for a massage, etc.

Oh, and definitely a Forever Lazy! Not kidding! Those are extremely comfy, warm, and cuddly.

During his foray into flying, did he show any interest in weather? My dad's a hobby pilot and a huge weather geek. I got him one of these: http://www.acurite.com/acurite-8-professional-digital-weather-station-with-weather-ticker-forecast-temperature-humidity-wind-rain-01500.html.

My husband liked it so much I got him one for Father's Day. There are a ton of them out there in different price ranges.

My dad is difficult to buy for as well. Some type of deal. For the last few years I have bought him a package from Omaha Steaks. Kind of cheesy but he really liked it. Its a idea and pretty easy.
