Excuses for being overweight

This is not to knock anyone with real healthy issues who struggle with their weight. I just want to see the funniest, stupid excuses people have heard from others for being overweight or for not exercising and eating right.
Excuse: I'm big boned.
As Molly said in the show Mike & Molly, "Bones don't jiggle!"
Excuse: Life's too short [to count calories or to exercises or to eat healthy]
Well, it will be much shorter if you don't do something about your health.
Excuse: I don't have time because I have kids
You must make time because you have kids.
Please post excuses you've heard or used yourself. Hopefully they are funnier than mine.

My excuse isn't funny. but use food as self medication......................... Found that out last night.0

Oh man I had them all
"I too tired, I'm a single mom, and active duty"
Well if you don't do something about your health you be a single mom with out a job
" I don't have enough time, between work, school and kids I just can't work out"
" because you have work school and kids you HAVE to find time to stay healthy"
" It takes to much time away from my kids"
" It'll take a lot more time away, when you don't have a job, or end up in the hospital"0 -
I will admit I use the "no time" excuse quite a bit when actually I do have the time, I just have to take advantage of it .. haha!! That being said, I'm glad I got a workout in this morning or I'd be feeling really guilty now, LOL
I've heard of the "having no energy" excuse as well. Guess they don't know that exercising GIVES you energy. Once you start working out you feel better and have more energy.0 -
I got another:
Excuse: I tried every diet there is with no results, so I gave up.
I have never heard someone say that they watched what they ate, exercised regularly and still did not lose weight after a month.
Excuse: I have a thyroid condition.
Usually the conversation goes like this:
Excuse Giver: "I have a thyroid condition."
Me: "Oh that's terrible. Are you on medication? What do the doctors say."
Excuse Giver: "I haven't gone to a doctor. I just know."
Me: "So assuming you are correct, are you saying you tried dieting and exercise for months with no weight loss?"
Excuse Giver: "No I haven't. I figured with my condition, why bother?"
Me: "?"0 -
There are real people here with real issues of trying to lose weight. To trivialize it as we are just coming up with excuses is - honestly offensive. I hope this is not what your intent of this posting.
As someone who is already thin and needed to only lose 10 pounds, perhaps you have a difficult time understanding people on here that are truly struggling to lose serious weight.0 -

I think this is more so as those people who see us losing weight and make excuses not to try themselves! If you're on here then obviously you have moved past making any types of "excuses" and are trying to change! However there are far too many people who ask me how I am doing it and when I respond that I watch what I eat and exercise they look at me blindly and ask "what else?" because they need an excuse on why they CAN'T do it.
Excuses I've heard (from myself!)
"My husband thinks I'm beautiful just as I am"
*Ahem* But he still drools over the Victoria Secret commercials so apparently he'd find me beautiful just as THEY are as well!
"I've tried before and it never worked."
Maybe it didn't work because I didn't try enough?!0 -
I think this post is a great way to 'purge' us of our excusses. I have dieted it feels like all my life. I have yo-yo'd also. At one time in high school I actually got down to the weight I was supposed to. I'm done with these excusses. LOL.
I just don't have the time to exercise (yes I know I should make time. lol)
I've tried and it doesn't work (ok so I didn't try REAL hard most times or for long)
So the above is now gone and I'm starting anew!!!!! Good luck to us all!0 -
LOL:laugh: I just used the THYROID excuse a few months ago and had my
doctor do more testing than just the usual test.
It came back normal just as he said. He wasn't concerned.
It was just another excuse for me to accept the
weight I was. :ohwell:
I agree with the thought that there are real people with
real issues and I am one of them. You have to laugh at
at yourself sometimes and not be so serious.
So we just stop the excuses and do it!!!0 -
I was just telling my son the other day that my mom used to use the excuse that she was "big boned".
My excuse is menopause. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :laugh:0 -
my fiance has the excuses for me...he says "honey you're just not built to be skinny"...i say B.S.!!! I may not fit a size 0 but these big bones need to shrink...(yes he also told me I'm big boned)...i've never had excuses, i know i'm lazy, and i know i need to get off my *kitten*...i know i love food and i eat to much...the problem has always been WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT!...0

I'm pretty sure the LAST thing tim was trying to do is be offensive or critical or trivialize anyone else or their situatution.0 -

The intent of this was just to be funny and to maybe give a little perspective. I am not overweight but I do personal experience with the effects of obesity. There are friends and family of mine who struggle with it daily and others who have lost the fight.
I lost someone really close to me due to obesity. As the problem grew steadily worse I didn't say anything because I thought it was not my place. Now that she's gone, I regret it deeply. I promised myself I would always speak up and tell the people I cared about how I felt in a supportive non-judgmental way.
I tried to get other family members to get healthy but while they were appreciative I was told politely to mind my own business. It wasn't long before one of them had a heart attack. As I sat in the hospital waiting to hear if he would make it, all I could think about was how I failed again. Thankfully, he lived and went on to lose about 40 pounds.
You thought I was being judgmental and insensitive so I applaud your speaking out against it. Please understand that people handle their struggles in different ways and vent their frustrations with humor. My personal struggle is about trying to help those I care about, and anyone who will listen, so I don't lose anyone ever again to obesity.
Obesity is not just a problem for those are overweight; it is also a problem for the people who care about them. It is so serious and tragic you can't help but try and bring some levity to the problem.0 -
hi timeserve , Youre kinda right in some instances, but sadly, there are lots, including me, who have no choice , either we lose it, or we lose
I m lucky, Ive stayed focused, and now at 113 lbs lost this year..........
My Dr literally told me , that if I didint lose weight, I was going to die. He didnt know when I was going to die, but lots sooner than most. My blood pressure was 160s / 100.........yikes........
I got his message, down 113 lbs so far with about 19 lbs to go,, my blood pressure is back to normal, along with most everything else, and I can now work out 3 hours at the gym, as opposed to the 10 mins I could barely handle at the gym dealing with obesity and exercise induced asthma
My determination along with a little prayer has taken me to new heights......
I dont think you meant it to be disrespectful, but there are so many of us who are on the fence when it comes to obesity.........I won, but Im here for all these nice people to support em to finish their journey .
Take care, Lloyd.....
p.s, is that Boston Harbor in your background.? I used to live there, just about 2 miles east, at the Prudential Center....0 -

Yes that's Boston Harbor, on the walkway around the courthouse.
It's great to hear you beat it. I read a quote today from Gandhi that I think applies to you and people like you. "My life is my message". It applies because by surviving your life is a message to others that they can do it.0 -
 A friend of mine doesn't comprehend by love for running. I said "Once you get in a groove and set some goals you just might it is a tad addicting." Her response "Oh I am Italian." I say "huh" She says "Italians don't run" I say "that is one craptastic excuse" She laughs and says "well that and I have a weirdly long torso so running just doesn't work for me"
You make that make sense...LOL:laugh:0 -

That's funny. I'm not Italian, but I also don't run. I use an elliptical or exercise bike. I don't want to take he risks that are associated with running. For the most part, running is great exercise and will help people live a long, healthy life. For myself it could be harmful in the long run (no pun intended). I tend to overdo things so if I got into running I may end up doing it everyday for extended periods. That amount of moderately high impact exercise could cause knee issues later in later.
I had a conversation with a group of people I had just met about exercise. I half-jokingly said I didn't run because it is bad for you.
An older gentlemen bristled at that and said "What! I run everyday and I'm healthier than people half my age!"
I looked him in the eye and replied, "Oh yeah? How are your knees?"
He turned away and mumbled, "Some days they are so sore, old ladies walking in the park blow right past me. I see your point."
Not to knock a sport you obviously care about, but running marathons may be detrimental to your health (Training for one is typically very good for your health). I'm assuming you are already aware of this but here's one link for reference:

Most people aren't extreme marathoners so there is probably little concern for the average person who wants to stay fit. I'm not an expert but I know enough to stay away from them.0 -
Behind all the daft excuses you'll find your ultimate excuse. That is a little voice that says 'I can't do it. I can't control it'
The little voice is wrong.0
