    SHORT VERSION:

Calories in > Calories out = weight loss. Eat healthy and exercise, and lift weights.

    Longer, complicated version:

Find your TDEE, and eat 500 calories less than that every day. Here's a calculater for it: http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/

Eat plenty of proteins and fats, fill the rest with carbs. You should eat 0.7-0.8 grams of protein for every pound of lean bodyweight you have. (get your bodyfat% tested, or post a picture on here or Reddit or something and have people give you a ballpark estimate) Remember this:
    1g protein = 4 calories
    1g carbs = 4 calories
    1g fat = 9 calories
    1g alcohol = 7 calories.
Your diet should be something like this: You should get 35% of your calories from fat, get .7-8g protein per 1 pound lean mass, and fill the rest of your diet with carbs.

Eat plenty of veggies (duh) Potatoes don't count, they're just starch, and starch is a bunch of sugar molecules holding hands. Have a moderate amount of fruit (don't overdo it, fructose is still sugar, and the sugars in fruits are nearly chemically identical to high fructose corn syrup)

Lift weights, start here: http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-beginner-strength-training-program/ If you don't lift, you'll lose muscle, and won't look good naked. Plus lean mass = healthy mass.

Do interval training on off days for cardio, so that means get outside and do some sprints, or some tabata workouts. Anything that is a short period of high intensity exercise followed by a period of rest.

There's no need to take diet pills.

Just be patient, track your food, and try to find healthier substitutions that allow you to eat more. Exercising is absolutely a plus as well for overall health and for toning. Generally though, if you eat at a caloric deficit, you'll lose weight. It just might not be as fast as you'd like.
