I am trying to understand the tool. I am 5-6, 185. about 30% overweight trying to get to 165-170.
After entering the macros it has me at 1200 calories a day, I had been following 2000 calorie diet with 2450 for maintenance before this tool. What am I doing wrong in the tool?
Thanks

What did you set your weight loss goal too? My guess is to aggressive probably 2 lbs. A week???0

What activity level did you choose and how many pounds per week?0

Make sure you're setting a reasonable goal since you don't have much to lose.0 -
1 - You've probably gone with the most aggressive weight loss approach (2 Lbs per week ) possible. Not everyone can lose at that rate and yeah...it's pretty much eating like a birdie. You really should only be using this approach if you're substantially overweight/obese; otherwise you don't have the fat stores to go that fast.
2 - You probably set yourself as sedentary...even if you have a desk job, you're probably not
3 - With MFP you log exercise after the fact and that's when MFP gives you credit and you "earn" back calories to eat. Other calculators like the one you're probably using before include some estimate of your exercise activity in you activity level...
4 - Read the links already provided to you in this thread...they're the good stuff.
5 - You can customize your goals; if your 2000 calorie diet was working, just keep at it. Keep in mind that with very little to lose, nothing is going to happen fast....it's a slug fest at this point. Get into the gym and weight train and eat a very modest deficit.0 -
Thanks, making more sense now.0

Thanks, seems to be better/realistic now.0
