Olympic Lifting

Hey guys recently I got into O Lifting, and I love it, turns out im actually really good at it, and im lifting more and more by the second, how do I know what category I should compete in? theres 53kg all up to 79+kg... im 205 lb right now but im looking to lose to 130lb... im assuming because im big I should be lifitng in 79kg category... but when Im 130 what category will i be?

and is it determined by bodyweight?

    hey! O lifting is pretty addictive isn't it? i used to do it and eventually want to get back into competitions once i reach my weight goals

    and the answer is yes, you compete according to your bodyweight class

  • I love all of them! Its like i discovered something im truly passionate about... is there website or something i see what bodyweight goes with what category bc I want to know what to aim for.

    Unless you're planning for international competition and higher, or perhaps serious national championship attempt, just compete at what bodyweight you happen to be.

    If you're really serious, it's a lot to do with height than anything else, the taller you are, the better off you are likely to be at a heavier weight class, although depending on your build, you will find there is an optimum point where reducing weight makes you too weak (relatively) and gaining too much means that although you're lifting more, it's not enough relative to the extra mass.

    If you're only just beginning though, get some good coaching, keep training hard and don't worry too much about weight classes just yet.

    When you get down to 130lbs you'll be just under 59kg and yes, your division (like boxing & wrestling) is based on your weight.
