"Seeing" Results

I have been overweight or obese my whole life. I have lost a little over 50 pounds since I joined the last week or so in June. I can see a difference in my clothes. I am beginning to see a little difference in my body and face. I am wearing clothes that I have not worn in years. I know I have lost weight.

But....when I shop for clothes, I have a hard time, because I always go for the sizes that I have always worn. When I actually find something that fits, I am self conscious that it could be too tight. It is almost to the point that I do not trust my sense of fashion, because I have worn my "fat" (now baggy) clothes for too long. I do not want to spend a ton of money on new clothes, because I still have a significant amount of weight that I want to lose.

Is this a normal reaction when you have lost weight? Will I ever get to the point where I will "see" just how much I have lost?

    Yes, many people struggle with overcoming the body image issues that years of obesity have ingrained into them. Especially with women, who have more body image pressure on average than men. For a long time you may have to remind yourself that you're not that person anymore and learn to love yourself for who you are at that moment.

    I still do the same. I feel like I've lost basically nothing until I see old pictures of myself and have to stop for a minute.

    Honestly, I'd suggest buying at least a few new pieces of clothing. Maybe two pairs of jeans, a few shirts etc. I find that most things I buy are good until I lose at least another 20lbs or so. Invest in your happiness rather than walking around in your old "fat" clothes.

    Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I am proud of what I have accomplished, and love how I feel now. I probably need to pull out some old pics to get a grip on what i have done...and a few new clothes could be a great thing. Thanks for the ideas.
  • The first time I started cutting I was sure there was no change. Even after 3 months and 20lbs lost. The next time I started a serious diet I took before and after pictures and the results became apparent to me. See if you can't find some old pictures of you and compare them to your current self :).
