First time Mom with 25-35 pounds to lose...

Hi name is Melissa! I need to be accountable somewhere so I figured this is as good as any place.
I had my first child the end of March, 2013. I gained a lot of weight (around 55 pounds) and I'm still stick with 25 of it and I'm not doing well at getting the scales to budge. I'm really struggling with exercise. I work full time and my husband is going to college part time so there's really not much time because I'm taking care of the baby in the evening and to even squeeze in 25 mins I have to get up at 5:15am(not always easy but I'm trying!).
I hate counting calories but I realize I need to start in order to lose weight. I don't think I eat bad but obviously I'm not losing so even though I'm not eating "bad" I'm still eating to much...
I really want to be back to 150 before my son's first birthday so I only have until March 29th to make this happen. I'm not even sure if it's doable in 18 weeks but I can try!!

You said you have several months. I honestly don't see why this isn't plenty of time. Try to do some research on nutrition and do your best to get in regular exercise. 1-2lbs of weight loss per week is realistic.0

Don't set yourself up for failure by putting a goal date. There should be plenty of time to hit it but if you aren't quite there then you carry on . Too many people set goals then give up because they can't meet them. Your first pounds will come off easy, the last ones are a real struggle. Just the way it works. Exercise is great for fitness but you can lose weight by just eating at a deficit. More important to tend to your child than try to cram exercise in if you can't but it means really being diligent with your calorie counting.0

I'm reading some about calories and I'm wondering where I should be at. I'm 5' 7'', 30 years old and weigh 174 pounds. And I have a office job where I sit on my butt all day(yeah it stinks). I'm thinking 1500-1800 because I've done 1200 before and it's just not for me....0

I really hate counting calories. I'm trying today but it's hard. And I do a lot of homemade meals/snacks and I don't really have the time to sit down and figure out the calories so there will be lots of "guesstimating".
I managed to walk a little over a mile this morning right now I'm happy with that.0 -
I found logging calories incredibly helpful, and I had never ever ever watched what I ate before I joined this site. I like it. It's a point of stability and habit in my frantic day. I also learned a tremendous amount. You will learn a lot to make you and your baby healthier.
If you read what you log and figure out which calories aren't important to you and which are, it makes it easy to stay full and eat all your favorite stuff.
If you buy a fitbit (zip is $59 new, less used) it will count all the many steps you do running after your soon to be mobile toddler and that will help buy you more calories.
BTW, I gained 55 pounds with each child and wound up 10 pounds less than I started with each within a year of their birth. It was LATER that I started to gain. You can do it.0 -

The more you do it the easier it gets. I do all my own cooking too. But I bet you have set meals you use a lot for breakfast and lunch. You can copy from one day to the next or save them as 'meals' to use again. Guestimate at a dinner.
But do weigh or measure at first so you know portion size. That makes all the difference.0 -
