My name is Candice. I'm 23 years old. I weigh 144 lbs and I'm trying to lose roughly 20-30 lbs. I'm 4'11. A calculator said I should be 90-99 lbs but that seems extreme. I have tried a couple times to eat healthier and exercise. I managed my calories and nutrition for about 2 weeks a couple months ago but fell back to old habits. In those two weeks I lost 10 lbs just from cutting out soda and eating right. I also get into a food rut when I try to eat healthy. Like I don't know how to make very many healthy meals so I just rely on a few that I know. I have a hard time too because I do not do the grocery shopping in my house. There are no healthy snacks. I don't usually get involved with the communities with this sort of thing. Has it made the difference for any of you guys?

Maybe that weight is an arbitrary number. Yes you should be worried about your weight but I would also track body fat and BMI. If you don't do the shopping maybe you could make some requests to the person who does, specific requests of things that you want. Or maybe when they go shopping go with. Yu could possibly influence the snacks that come home. :bigsmile:0

Also there are websites where you can find healthy eating ideas. myrecipes.com is a good website for all recipes but they have a lot of healthy choices too if you search them on there.0

How do I know for sure what my body fat and BMI are? I don't really have anything to measure that. Like is there a way that doesn't require any specific equipment? I was just going to shoot for 115-120 lbs. My parents and I are polar opposites when it comes to eating. I'll have to convince them to get some new things I guess.0

I'd probably try to lose 5 pounds at a time to see if I liked the way I looked. If not, I'd just continue to lose weight until I am satisfied. Don't get too carried away though! You don't want to be a toothpick0

We are in the same boat. Im 4"11 and I weigh 148 and I find it difficult to keep eating clean because for me that would mean eating the same few healthy meals that I know/like. All the tempting crap food in the house doesnt help either. I keep trying to remind myself that im eating for fuel and not for satisfaction. I wish I had someone to make and serve healthy meals. Oh well, it will be worth it in the end!0

We bought a "Weight Watchers" digital scale that you can program to check body fat and BMI. I'm sure there are others out there.0

I'm 4"10' I am under 100 pounds but that was just recently and unless you're really small boned, and chested, thats probably too low of a weight. (for me its not, I fit that other stuff )
BUT don't worry about that number yet.
You can google BMI and TDEE and put your numbers in to find out what your calories should be. work on a 20% deficit first.
You stopped at 2 weeks. Congrats you hit the magic week that I find that 80% of the people stop at (People may not like me saying that).
Lets get you past weeks 3 and 4 and you'll be on your way!
Add me as a friend if you'd like.

I think that a lot of people have some really good advice and have experienced or are experiencing that same issues you are, so being on community blogs is a good thing. Just make sure to do research on your own as well because your body type may react differently to intake of some foods differently than others with your stature. All I know is water, water, water is your friend and being ACTIVE 5-6 days a week is extremely beneficial. What's that saying of "Abs are made in the kitchen", well so is your butt, arms, legs, etc... It takes some people 21 days to adjust to a new routine, so sticking around here and finding the support you need might be a bonus to get you on the right track. GOOD LUCK!!!0

I think the best thing you can do for yourself is get to that grocery store! If you absolutely can't then add your items to the list so that the main shopper might consider getting at least some of the stuff on your list. Super easy ways to be healthful include making smoothies (a banana, some greens, a handful of frozen fruit, and milk/soymilk/yogurt), wraps (throw your favorite veg, greens, hummus, lean protein in a whole wheat tortilla), and just adding more whole fruits and veggies to regular dishes. Even if you're just diluting down lasagna by adding eggplant or cereal by adding blueberries, you're still getting more nutrients in your day-to-day and less of the processed or not-so-healthy stuff. Hope that helps! And good luck to you!0

I make up healthy stuff as I go along. My parents and I are also polar opposites when it comes to eating but lately because of a financial strain I've had to eat with them a lot. I just eat less of what they fix, after all beggars can't be choosers. And I take my own sauces and stuff over because I try to watch my sodium, calories, etc. Get a food scale. Like someone else said go shopping with them. My parents are not converting to some of the things I like to eat like frozen veggies instead of canned, baby steps. I'm also getting them away from boxed foods by helping them with the cooking (and earning my groceries).
These little things add up to big calorie deficits over time.0 -

no problem. As someone who just recently decided to start eating better...I noticed that a lot of my issue was that i just didn't know how to cook. On top of that, "diet" and "healthy" food just looked gross. All i saw was grilled chicken and dried up fish everywhere lol. So i decided to look for meals that actually looked like something I would eat. i also decided that there are still ways i can have foods I want. I just have to lighten them up (and still make them taste good, which is entirely possible), and half the portion sizes. I've learned that doing that, drinking lots of water, cutting out soda and sugary drinks (a huge undertaking for me, as I love starbucks lol) and exercising has helped me quite a bit. Good luck, you can do it!! I'm on the same goal.0
