Exercise Program? Need help, please.

I recently started going to the gym and I know I need to start out slow and steady. So, I'm doing 30 minutes of cardio and 20 to 30 minutes of using the weight machines. I'm doing 3-4 sets of 15 reps with low weights. I'm not sure if that's right? Of if I should be alternating weights on how many days a week? I need some kind of schedule or guidelines to go by and I'm having trouble finding some. Any advice?

Most gyms will set you up with a free PT session when you join, to help you figure this stuff out. Or it might be worth investing in a few to get your started, most gyms will have "start-up" prices0

You should give your muscles a day to rest between strength workouts, so MWF or TuThS. You can do cardio everyday, but one day a week totally off is not a bad idea. On the machines, make sure you are doing chest, back, shoulders, abs and legs. As far as reps go, you probably want to do 3 sets of 12-15 reps. The weight should be heavy enough that the last rep is really hard and you may not be able to finish the third set.0

stop doing long steady cardio and switch to a High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) program for cardio. You'll see better results. Check out marksdailyapple for nutrition advice and also Born Fitness and Roman Fitness Systems0
