Insomnia and Bodybuilding

By insomnia I don't mean 1 to 2 sleepless nights, this has been going on for a couple months now. I'll just lay in bed for 8 hours straight trying to sleep with no success. Funny thing is I don't get tired at all during those 8 hours, I feel like I could run laps or choke somebody to death. When I do get sleep it's just 3-4 hours. My eyes are tired to the point where they are starting to hurt. The longest I went was 4 days without any sleep and that **** sucks. I'm taking gaba melatonin and zma but non of those seems to help at all. I don't even know if I should workout anymore. Somebody please help.

I have had insomnia off and on for years. When it is active I do the following: 1. No cardio after dinner 2. No caffeine after lunch 3. Quiet time for 30 minutes or so before bed 4. Stick to a schedule including not sleeping in or napping 4. Yoga before bed time.
Associate something with bed time. Find something that helps you calm down and focus on you not your list of things that needs done tomorrow. I have done herbal tea or hot chocolate every night for weeks straight. I used to watch my favorite movie every night and turn it off at the same scene every night for lights out. It helps put my mind into sleep mode.
I know how frustrating it can be to not be able to sleep for more than 3 hours. I used to lift like a beast and sometimes it would take several days before getting any sleep. In the end it all comes down to stress management for me.
Good luck.0
