Don't give them numbers. They will just argue with you. You could say something vague like (*edited to add I didn't read the other replies and see everybody recommended being vague -- yes, vague is the way to go*):

"I'll stop when my weight fits the medical charts for my height"
"When my doctor says I'm no longer overweight"
"When I lose my fat stomach"
    "I'm doing some toning now"
"I haven't decided. How are you doing with your health?"

I have the same problem. I'm 5'3" and only 4 pounds into being medically normal, but if I say I want to lose another 10 pounds people always give me warnings.

Thanks everyone!! I am so proud of how far I've come and I'm looking forward to posting some "after" pics once I get to that vague weight number.
I feel great and I just want everyone to be able to tell by the way i take care of myself.
    Have a great weekend!

I agree that these people are jealous and I think it is because they see in you that it CAN be done and dispels the notion that they can't do it and just have to put in the work to make it happen. As I was losing and getting closer to my goal, I was told "You aren't going to lose any more are you?" I replied that I had a few more to go and was getting to my maintenance level. I tried to take it as a compliment because these people really admired what I was doing. I agree with what all have said about people's misperception of body weights. I recommend MYBODYGALLERY.COM to see bodies at your height and different weight levels. I found this site very valuable as I was losing to really see where I was at a certain weight and where I ultimately wanted to get to. It was actually about 20 pounds more than my original goal to get to my ideal weight.

I've been there myself. I recommend responding to "how much do you plan on losing" with "just a few more pounds, a weight my doctor and I have agreed to!" Most people are just expressing (albeit in a roundabout way) that they think you look fantastic and don't need to lose any more weight... however, weight is just a number. I know that I weigh more than some of my friends but have smaller measurements, and vice versa.

Congrats on your success... until you hit your goal weight, just keep it vague! :)

Or you can point them to http://www.mybodygallery.com/ for a range of body types given the same weight and height.

This. is. great!! Thank you for linking this, I want to play around with my height and weight and what I was last year (I lost 20lbs) and what I am this year (gained it back b/c I was making excuses).

(ETA: Why my weight was different).

How about, don't tell people what your goal weight is? When they ask, you can say something like "oh, a few more pounds" or "I'm not sure yet, I'll know when I get there" or..... something else that doesn't give them a platform to share their opinion. Someone told me once "just because someone asks you a question doesn't mean you have to answer it" or in this case, answer it with a hard and fast number.

    I like this reply
