Gluten Free? Help!

So I've come to the realization that I'm pretty sure I've got a problem with gluten. My stomach just can't handle it, and within 10 minutes of eating it, I feel so bloated and sick. I've thought about cutting everything out, and just going gluten free for some time now, but I'm worried that I'll be craving normal foods in a short time. Does anyone have experience with just going straight gluten free? Any tips? Did it make weight loss easier after cutting out gluten?

I would talk to your doctor first so that he/she can run some allergy tests.

Allergy test don't always show gluten intolerance.

I went completely gluten free cold turkey. Looking at the gluten free alternatives, I decide that I didn't want eat processed foods anymore cause there's a lot of junk in them. I started looking at recipes to make my own treats. Also, the more whole food I eat the less I want the sweets. One of my favorite things to eat now is peanut butter and apples. Some thing I never would of like before going gluten free.

I wont lie some days I really want some yummy cake but I remember how much it hurts. I literally can barely eat or drink for about 2 days after eating gluten now because my stomach will hurt so much.

There ARE tests your doctor can run to see if you have Celiac's or a gluten intolerance. An elimination diet is anecdotal evidence at best. Always best to consult a professional IMHO.

Having said that, paleo recipes are all gluten-free and mostly pretty "normal." I have a lot of cookbooks and a lot of them are paleo recipes and I make stuff from them all the time even though I'm not "paleo" because they're yummy and low cal and help me hit my macros.

The good news is that there are decent tasting gluten free alternatives for most things now, so if you get to craving pizza or cookies or whatever there are options.

If your symptoms are that clearcut, going gluten free sounds like a no-brainer to me. If you have a test that tells you that you are not allergic, that won't be much consolation when you are still sick from eating it.

I know someone who cut out allergens and proceeded to lose 30 pounds without dieting, so anecdotally at least it can be much easier to lose weight.

Thanks for the info guys. I have spoken with my doctor, and he's sure I have it. The test I was told about, apparently I have to eat all foods with gluten for a month straight. I opted out as I don't want to put my body through that. I know how much my stomach hurts after eating a piece of bread. It wasnt worth it for me to go through the pain just to say I 100% have it.
