More important to what? Weight loss? General fitness? Cardiovascular conditioning? Just depends on what your goals are and what you like doing.
If you mean what's more beneficial overall, just very generally speaking, I'd go with weights. Done right, there's not lot of wear and tear on the body, you improve your lean mass and strength, can improve posture, and get some general conditioning in the process.
Actually, I might go with yoga, come to think of it. Just as an overall, all-purpose, 'most benefits for the time invested' sort of thing.0 -

What's most important is something you like and can keep up with. No point doing something you hate so will give up after a few weeks0
-
It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. At the moment I am 70% cardio but as the fat goes the strength training ratio will increase.0

What's more important taste or smell?
Honestly op they are two things that come together to make life better. Neither is more important unless you have a specific goal that is one sided such as becoming a bodybuilder or a marathon runner.0 -
more important?
Whatever keeps you doing it.
For me, I do weights and little to no cardio.
So that is most important to me.0 -
To me, weights, to retain as much muscle as possible to look better, gaining strength, good for your bones etc0

Weights helps with bone mass, overall muscle tone, and help to balance fitness and strength. Cardio helps to increase cardiovascular health by working the heart and circulatory system, and improves oxygen perfusion and overall organ health.
You really can't be complete without both, and both are necessary for good balance. They're really not even comparable in terms of which one's "more important".0 -
My vote would be lifting (which can be a cardio event in itself). As we age our bodies tend to lose muscle mass. Building muscle allows us to remain fit and healthier for the long haul.0

I run and lift and they both have their purpose. If you're asking about body composition though lifting is more important.0
-
I would put strength maintenance and development above cardio as strength training can have an aspect of cardio inbuilt anyway. Note though, strength training doesn't have to be weight lifting specifically; calisthenics are just as valid.0

I personally think a mixture of both!
It has been working for me.

Exactly. Did the original poster even read the questions posed to him/her?
It also makes me think the person isn't looking for an answer, but a debate or just killing time online. :laugh:0 -
Both! I used to do all cardio. I love running and it's my way of relaxing. My body has changed more since I've started lifting weights, and I have a love/hate relationship with it.0

I think both, I try if I can to alternate weight day, cardio day, weight day, cardio day.....I personally like weights a little bit more but I think both are equally important0

My husband and I were arguing about this. He said lifting; I said cardio. All he was doing was lifting and was getting bigger/stronger AND fat. All I was doing was cardio and was getting smaller, but not stronger or firmer.
He started adding more cardio, and surprise...surprise, he lost fat. I started adding strength-training and have gotten smaller, firmer, and stronger.
So obviously, both are important.0
