Oh boy, he used to be a chiropractor. Chiropractors are notorious for trying to bill themselves as "nutrtion experts" even though they have no actual training.
OP, for a general, healthful diet, these are the recommendations:
protein: 10-35% of total calories
carb: 45-65%
fat: 20-35%
If you have some medical conditions those recommendations could change, but for the average person they're fine.0 -
Carb/Pro/Fat - 40/30/30. More of a bodybuilding split, but It is a lower carb, higher protein option, and your fats should consist of healthy fats. It's worked well for myself, brother, and those people that I've trained, which isn't the greatest of authorities but it's what I got.0

No, because of course you are 100% correct about everything and everyone else is deluded and you're on a one man crusade to prove this. No, wait, not prove, just go round telling everyone that they're wrong and you're right with links to websites with an agenda to push. (this comment is in response to reading a lot of your comments on various threads, not just the above).
"people who eat it are healthier than most" .... most what? Most obese people who sit on the sofa all day and order takeaway through their living room window? I'm sure 80:10:10 people are healthier than that.... If you want to be taken seriously by people who care about science, you need to make specific statements and then bring proof of them. Here's a more specific statement you could have made "health conscious people who eat 80:10:10 are healthier than health conscious people who eat 40:30:30, as measured by a range of health markers such as body fat percentage, lean body mass for height, blood iron levels, bone density, wilks score (powerlifting coefficient of amount lifted compared to bodyweight), time taken to run a mile, blood pressure, blood lipid counts, resting heart rate, V02 max" and you can add some others if you want..... - prove that and your one man crusade might have a bit more credibility.... otherwise it's just you quoting websites with their own agendas that are not backed up by science.0 -

what you need first is determination - to change to a lifestyle that you can sustain
then you need to input your details, MFP will tell you your Macros' , and total daily calorie intake
then you need honesty, - to log EVERYTHING that passes your lips, buy some scales, read the nutritional values on every packet of everything
and then you need a scales; only weigh once every 1 or 2 weeks, - the simple formula is to burn more than you eat is the golden key to your journey
you'll soon learn what's good & bad to eat in each Macronutrient category, logging small amounts of food which have high caloric content drives you crazy0 -
All of that arguing aside, I've been doing 40/30/30 for the past few months and I enjoy it in general. It doesn't mean that I'm perfect with it all the time, but it really helps me focus on getting enough protein as I've been lifting heavy as well. I've found that it's influenced by food choices in a positive way.
At the end of the day, it's what works for you - if you would feel more satisfied with more carbs, do it that way. As long as you're at a deficit, you'll be fine.0 -

Your body needs fats. I eat high fat and low carb and I feel pretty damn healthy.0
