Nestle toll house cookies without butter?

I was wondering if anyone has tried substituting something else for butter in the original nestle toll house chocolate chip recipe? I want to make them with less saturated fat. Can I use applesauce in lieu of butter? And for the eggs - how about Eggbeaters? The recipe calls or 2 sticks of butter - that is 1 cup. Maybe use 1 stick and 1/2 cup applesauce? Has anyone played around with this recipe and had success?

No. For a cookie those substitutions won't work. You may have some luck substituting one of the non-butter spreads--but you'd have to do a lot of experimenting. Really, for cookies you need either butter, shortening or margarine. Apple sauce and things like that work well for cakes but not cookies.0

+1
No substitution for saturated fat will work - it's required for the physics of making that type of cookie.
Just make the cookies and eat less, or pick another type of treat. BTW - nothing wrong with saturated fat unless you have a medical condition that requires you to restrict it.0 -

Use the full amount of butter listed. Limit yourself to one cookie. Or go for a jog.0

Good luck with your experimenting, OP!

Experimenting? I am not experimenting.
And I eat MORE than one cookie, without going for a jog. But I am not worried about the cookies/butter/eggs, etc. Since the OP is concerned about the cookies, I thought it might be helpful.0 -
Peanut Butter should work as a substitute for the butter. It won't lessen the calories, but it will lessen the sat to unsat fat ratio.
Coconut oil would probably work too, but that is high saturated fat, though generally thought to be healthier than butter.0 -

 Sorry if my reply was confusing. (I edited it.) I was talking to the OP and I quoted you because I was agreeing with your suggestion.0 -

I kind of feel sad for you!! I've baked using applesauce, zuchinni, chick peas, other beans, and avocado in the ingredients, and not only do you not taste it, but they make for a much moister consistency. Delicious and nutritious!
Just Google "substitutes for butter in baking" and you'll get lots of results.0 -
Cookies don't like water (crisp, chewy). That's why applesauce ruins the texture.
A cake or brownie will work with applesauce. If you want a (cake like) chocolate chip oatmeal cookie that's workable:

When I make a moist cake, I use mayo instead of eggs and oil.
And don't feel sad for me.
I'll enjoy my real cake without have grated my fingers off trying to put zucchini in my cake.0 -

There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating saturated fat and there is nothing wrong with using and eating eggs.
Why not just make the recipe with the NATURAL ingredients that have no preservatives instead of using man made products?0 -

Just use butter, it is natural and the body can digest the saturated animal fat, no problem. Stay away from margarine, etc. Why would you eat something that you cannot pronounce.

Does anyone have any suggestions for replacing the butter with a non-dairy alternative? This has nothing to do with saturated fat or whatever, but my wife can't have dairy or soy as it causes problems with breastfeeding.0
