These results show the benefits of wives' downregulation of negative emotion during conflict for marital satisfaction and point to wives' constructive communication as a mediating pathway.0

i agree i pretty much control the results of the argument. if I choose to escalate it then it will escalate if i choose to drop it and think to myself what an f'en idiot he is and plot a devious plan of revenge then we are happy.

Those are the smart states. Womens is crazy. Not built for long term stuff. Only good for a maximum of ten months and a minimum of four minutes.0 -

You mean having calm, respectful dialogue with your partner will make your relationship last longer than emotion fuelled rants?

I think if a woman or man is not acting crazy, the relationship will be better overall. That is already obvious. I am not sure why this study focused on women's emotions versus a person's emotions. While women may be perceived as emotional, let us not forget that men are perceived as angry and careless. With the idea of a crying woman and a screaming man, I think this study should've focused on both genders or even threw out the idea of stereotypes.0

^^^ exactly. So glad there are studies for these things...and I'm SO glad to see the "Adam and Eve" plot in use: woman - always to blame for man's inability to control himself.0 -

Clearly you should live together and be together for a few years before marriage.
Women can escalade or descalade any situation they want to with there emotions.
But let me tell you this if you havent seen a women break down in to the kind of craziness yet you havent been together long enough, therefore you must know your partners potential and total freakout point before you marry her. You must be able to tolerate her as well as tolerate him at the peak of uncontrolable emotions. If you cant deal with it dont get married to that person.
thats my take!0 -

I have to agree with women needing to better control emotions. It's not politically correct to say that women and men are just wired differently, but it's true. One isn't better than the other... just different. If the study was done on men then there would be a list of different quirks that men could control that would help the marraige. It's not stereo-typing to say that women are more emotional... it just is what it is. Maybe you're one of the few exceptions... great- I find myself to be a little more cold than many women.. but overall... getting our emotions under control is a good thing.0
