Hello All! I am contemplating adding a diet pill in with what I am already doing. I have lost 50 pounds the natural way and I will continue to do what I have been doing (i.e. watching my calorie intake and working out). I am just wondering if anyone out there is using anything that has helped boost their loss. My personal experience is- When I was a soph. in college I wanted to lose some weight before volleyball season. So over the summer I ate better and did a serious training routine; to go along with it I took Hydroxicut. I did lose about 25 / 30 pounds that summer. I did not gain it all back as soon as I stopped taking it. So what are your positive and negative stories with diet pills so I can weigh them before I ultimately decide!?! THANKS

Seems like you answered your own question: "I have lost 50 pounds the natural way and I will continue to do what I have been doing (i.e. watching my calorie intake and working out)."

Save your money and spend it on something more worthwhile, such as new sneakers or a new workout dvd, or a studio class of some kind. Why mess with something that isn't broken? Slow & sustainable losses are the most healthy.

You do what YOU feel comfortable with! There is NOTHING wrong with adding a boost if you are smart about it! I'm currently taking Healthe Trim.....www.healthytrim.com. It has safe ingredients per my nurse. :)

You'll find a lot of people who will say if you eat right and excercise you're doing it the right way! Not everyone is the same person, and has the same chemicals some need an extra boost!

So in my opinion....do what you think YOU need to do to be happier and healthier!

this is exactly what i was going to say. if your current system is working why mess with it?

dont like diet pills, you cant take them forever, so i dont use em. I dont like diet pills for the same reason i dont like diets that depend on prepackaged foods. At some point you have to stop using them, so why use them at all. you have done an awesome job without them.

IMO since so many of them have been proven to be unsafe, so im against them.

I absolutely agree with jhandley! However, I strongly suggest you talk to your doctor about it first. I lost 42 lbs about two years ago, and I have 20 more to go. My body truly seems to like where it's at, and I've changed around my diet and excercise, and the weight just wasn't coming off. Similarly, no matter what I ate, I was hungry ALL day long! I made an appointment with my doctor and explained everything; he put me on phentermine. Because I was concerned about side effects, such as elevated heart rate and insomnia, he placed me on the lowest dosage possible. Not only have I lost 9 lbs, but I also found that my hunger pains have gone away. Obviously I know that I can't stay on these pills forever, but the appetite suppressant and stimulant really does boost metabolism--and doing it under a doctor's supervision is the safest possible way to use diet pills.

    Good luck :)
  • I will give you a few alternatives that work.

Natural stack: all natural products that taken together do a good job

    Coconut oil
    nutrasea + d (fish oil)
Precision cla (omega fatty) (Precision is the brand)
    L- carnitine
    Green tea extract (brand: NOW)

    These do work.

    or

    SUB -Q by Fusion bodybuilding.

It really works great and there is really no stim except caffine.

The first two days you may feel a bit jacked but after that you will not feel anything. Never and I mean never go for Hydroxycut, vpx, or other stuff like that. Read lables, but from experience SUB-Q is the one I would recommend.

Feel free to contact me with questions. Better to get fully informed through as many sources as possible..

No offense, but how is relying on the "advice" of a stranger, about OTC diet pills at all informative?
Ultimately, I would hope the original poster would decide what's right for her and research it for herself.
No better way to educate oneself, in my opinion.

Personal experience: Waste of money. Honestly, I didn't notice much of a difference aside from mood changes and sweats. Don't do it. They are just gimmicks. There is no silver bullet. The secret ingredient of the Secret Ingredient Soup is... there is no secret ingredient. It's all you!
No amount of pills or supplements will change that.

I dont take diet pills - never found one that actually worked but on occassion I do take PGX which is a fibre supplement to help me feel full. There are days [like today] when I just feel hungry all the time. I'll take 2 capsules whenever I feel I need them. Today I waited until my 2nd break [2pm] to take them and I'll be good until dinner. It also helps with my colitis since it bulks up and I pass food more easily with it.
  • No one is telling anyone to do anything without doing their own research. But, if someone wants to take a diet pill, they are going to take it. And if they are going to take it, I would rather them take a decent one that will not give them strokes. I personally reseached the ones I take for about a month. But do not look down at people who decide to try them. The safest ones are the natual ones. They work. Unless you have tried them and can debunk them do not have such a narrow oppinion. It is better to get advise from a stranger who has alot of experience with suppliments than get taken in by commercials and advertiseing for products that are dangerous and full of ****.

I am not reading where anyone is poo-pooing the originial poster for being curious about diet pills.
What I am reading is everyones (key word) opinions about diet pills, what is exactly what the poster asked for.

And, when someone says "Feel free to contact me with questions. Better to be fully informed. " as if to suggest that they
have all the answers, or at least will be best able to inform the orignial poster about all the diet choices available.
    That's irresponsible, in my opinion.
  • Irrisponsible is not helping when you can. Never said I have all the answers. Only said she needs to be fully informed. You should really relax a bit. If she does not know how dangerous some of these products are and tries them and ends up in the hospital with heart palpitations that is not better is it? But your stance is that unless you are a doctor or someone well known on t.v. then your experience means nothing. I do not advocate using diet pills, there are natural solutions that are safe. It is too easy to get caught up in gimmicks, this is what I want to help her avoid. But hey, since I am a stranger I guess my opinion is meaningless. So then, is yours by that measure.

    <<< totally relaxed.

"But your stance is that unless you are a doctor or someone well known on t.v. then your experience means nothing"

Really? Where are you getting that from? Because I never said that, that's quite an extrapolation and kind bizzare.

To be very clear, I never said she should/shouldn't take diet pills. I said she should stick with what is (clearly) working for her and put the money towards new gear or a studio class.

You seem to be getting a bit spun out and making it about doctor's advice and seeing it on TV so it must be true.
Which is just weird, in my opinion.

I lost the same amount of weight in the same amount of time without a pill.

You'll notice that every diet pill out there states something like this, "With this pill ALONG WITH DIET AND EXERCISE, you will lose weight."

I think the diet and exercise is the key to that.
  • Actually added that to see if you would nit pick about it. Anyways, too tired to argue anymore.

    Curious...thermogenic or appetite suppressant?
  • Your question is directed at who? Binary.

The original poster. There are some supplements that are effective thermogenics. Perhaps not to the extent that people hope, but effective.
I am not that up on the research for appetite suppressants.
  • Which one do you like. The best one I've come across is Sub q. No jitters or anything but it helps.

Currently...ephedra and caffeine. 200mg caffeine with 25mg ephedra in am and lunch. 400mg caffeine and 25mg ephedra 1 hour before workout.

Caffiene at drugstore $5, aspirin $4 = that makes a decent stack.

I like to use Fuzion - K-AKG it has caffeine it and it gets me moving. I don't use it to try and lose weight. I use it to wake me up to workout . Diet and exercise, is what works.
  • Very effective, but the efedera is dangerous for people who do not know how to use it properly. Not knocking it, just you need to be stim tolerent. Myself, I cannot handle stim, tried it once, messed me up.

Ephedra here you have to sign for. Max dosage is 6 a day and I take 3. I am not a believer in if 3 works, 20 would work bestest.

I agree with this completely. I've spent a lot of time looking into all natural products - these are all highly recommended. Great suggestions !!
