High heels and weightloss.

This might be a stupid question but, does losing a significant amount of weight make wearing (very) high heels easier? When I was 250lbs I felt very unstable in heels and the balls of my feet hurt a lot, I guess from all the weight pushing down on then. So I'm wondering if I can expect heels to feel better now that I'm lighter? Has anyone experienced this?

I don't know about the weight loss, but I've found my balance is vastly improved now that I'm more physically fit, which has allowed me to wear heels comfortably.0

Yes! I was just thinking about this the other night. At my heaviest (235 pounds), I would never have gone out for a night in heels unless I knew ahead of time that I'd be sitting down for most of it. But recently, I went out twice in heels. The first time was unintentional, as we started out at a sit-down bar and ended up going dancing at a club instead. After realizing that my feet didn't bother me at all, I wore heels out for a second night of dancing. It's much more doable than it used to be.0

Yes, and your feet will probably get smaller also. I lost a size, lots of people lose width too.I started at 235 at my heaviest as well.0

You lose weight on your feet too so you may lose a size as well as be more comfortable.0

YES. Less weight being borne on a small surface area, and better balance, makes them easier to wear. Until you start walking out of them because your feet have shrunk.
"Humans will only have one foot on the ground while walking. Estimate that the area of the heel on a man's shoe is 10 in2. When he walks, a 200 lb. man exerts 20 psi because the weight is supported momentarily by the heel. A 100 lb. woman exerts many more psi when she wears heels. Depending on the area of the heel, she can exert as much as 1600 psi under a 'stiletto heel' ¼ inch on a side. This explains why people with wood floors don't want women walking on them in high heels."

i wear heels i think it depend on your sure weight....and you should work on the proportion....0 -
Oh my goodness, YES! My feet hurt so much less now and my balance is better.0

Wearing heels is so much more comfortable now. I've only done it at work so far, and I have a fairly sedentary job. But it's definitely easier now, to the point that I want to get some new pairs!0

Yes, definitely. I find my feet ache less when standing up for long periods of time, too.0

I was wearing heels daily (and loving it) when I was 60lbs heavier. I think some women just have a harder time in heels than others regardless of weight; I've never had an issue but have skinnier friends who do.0

Everyone's comments have been so helpful, thank you very much!0

I have noticed that I can wear heels more comfortably, although let's be honest, it's more about how it LOOKS, than how it FEELS!
I wore them when I was 35 lbs heavier and my balance is the same now as it was then, but I do find I can wear them for longer periods more comfortably than I could when I was heavier.0 -
It is way easier. Back at this time last year, I was 268 pounds and was totally unable to wear high heels. The other day, I bought the cutest high heeled black boots. I wore them to the casino, and my feet didn't hurt at all. It was freaking awesome!!!!0

this is such good news, i cant wait to get to onderland and wear heels... i have never worn heels EVER! I have big feet and it was always a pain to buy shoes!!! Thanks for motivation !
I should warn my husband to start saving pennies i have 10 years of shoe shopping to make up for haha!0 -
Definitely. Heels were a no-go when I was 306 pounds but now it's much better. There are still pairs that are too much to handle, but my knees can handle it way better and same with my feet.0

I think I have an ankle that rotates when I walk because I have never been able to wear heels.0

I can stand a lot longer in heels now then I could at 250 lbs. I wear heels a lot more now as well. I'd rather wear heels then most any shoes besides my jogging shoes.0

YES! When I started out at 291, my feet would kill me after 10 minutes in some of my heels. I can last so much longer now. And they have gotten looser. I found I could go down half a size in some shoes. I also feel more stable in them, but that could be due to my balance improving (I hope lol) from all the exercising.0

Oh yeah, I used to always wear heels even at 150, but I can go wayyyyy longer now at 106 without any pain than I could when I started0
-
In my experience, yes. Absolutely0

Ohhh this is such good news. I'm at 180 and can't wear heels at all anymore. I can't wait to get back into them!0
-
Not for me
I look like a wounded baby deer in heels
regardless of size0 -
Well,I will say my heels last longer! I've always enjoyed heels but mine were always wearing out /breaking quickly when I was bigger. Other than that,I think my body had just gotten used to the weight and heels weren't really a problem for me. & the thing I really didn't expect was going down two shoe sizes!!0

I always wear heels to work. At my heaviest, I could only wear 2" heels (and I spent a lot of time on my feet).
Today, I'm wearing 4" heels in a shoe a half a size smaller. I walk easily in these shoes and they look great with my business suit!0 -
My wife keeps stealing all of my heels, so you'll have to ask her :bigsmile:0

I've never been overweight so I can't really compare it, but at 118lbs......high heels still kill my feet.0
