Does anyone else eat maca?

I didn't realize it was mostly for sexual health but I've been taking 1/2 tsp daily for the energy boost and hormonal balance in oatmeal/greek yogurt. Did you notice any changes/side effects and how/howmuch do you take?

I did notice the effect on libido (I know, I know...true though) and slept really well.

Curious about your experiences :)

I'd never heard of it before this post but I just googled it and it showed up as a hormone balancer and mood enhancer as well as a libido enhancer. I'd try it.

Yes, I found a superfood powder (hemp, maca, white mulberries, mesquite, chia, goji berries, cacao and something beginning with L) energy boosting, mood enhancing, sugar regulating thing. I definitely feel better for taking it. If you are taking it to balance hormones and enhance mood and its also helping you sleep and increasing your libido none of that can be a bad thing? I feel better for my superfood and will continue to take it :0)
  • Wow, I eat the hemp/chia pretty often too! I still have yet to try the mesquite though. Was it spirulina you couldn't remember?
I love goji berries and mulberries too, but never bought too much of them. Always just buy them if I'm making chocolate bark or something.

Do you feel a difference after eating them compared to days/weeks you dont? :)

There's a little natural food & supplement store close to me, and a GNC not too far either, hopefully one of them has it.

I have tried two different varieties one is a superfood shake (mix with water drink and go) and the chia powder, which would be best mixed into cereal or something I think. Not tried spirulina, but would like to, cant remember the one with the L word - will try to have a look tonight when I get home. I definitely feel I have more energy when I take it regularly. Would be interested to hear what others take / think of the affects of these superfoods...

    ETA L word = Lucuma
    website = http://www.rawlicious.co.za/ or superfoods.co.za

Probably not going to be any use for you - I live in Namibia and found it at the Spar supermarket there. Think the product is from South Africa - ah found the website http://superfoods.co.za/ its the superfood section adn the superfood shake has 5 ingredients (ok just to drink) , the chia powder 8 ingredients (probably best mixed into cereal etc). They may deliver overseas though...

Thank you. Hopefully can find something similar locally.
  • Will definitely try out the lucuma, and will look out for the mulberries and goji berries! Thank you :) The maca is definitely making a difference btw. I've been able to workout everyday (usually do 5x week). Just added in 2 days b/c of bday party and thanksgiving :)

my OBGYN suggested Maca for peri-menopause (hot flashes). I tried it and felt like turd. I do seem to recall that it says it's not for long term use...

me me me!! stopped it because it made me very horny. not a good thing when you're single. ooops.
gave it to my friend who can't decide if he is gay or not, in order to see if he will get any hornier for women after taking it.

Please note that if you are going to use Maca there are a some side effects to consider, from mild to serious depending on the individual. Be also aware of the amounts you are taking, like everything else it might really help somebody and they will feel great while totally messing with someone else's health. I just thought of putting a warning out there for people. If it was recommended by a doctor in controlled doses then it's fine. Please be safe and conscious of your health as hormones are no joke.

Spirulina was also mentioned please stay away from it if any of you suffer from any form of thyroid disease and you are taking medication for it.

Always stay on the safe side.

Tried the pills but didn't do anything to me...
Maybe it depends on your system...
  • I mix it with my coffee in the morning. I started using it for low libido due to medication side effects, and extreme PMS. It also helps you go #2 in the best way possible..
