  • I had one last year, only vegetarian in my household. The leftovers were pretty delicious for the following week.

I'm having a real turkey, but this is what I always think of when someone says tofu turkey.

That's EXACTLY what I thought of. I'm in the UK and they are doing a re-run from the beginning. I just LOVE it.

In the UK I get a Quorn Family Roast which is t bad. Not like turkey but ok if you're a veggie.

vegetarian food tastes best when it's not trying to be meat

ETA: my mum's a veggie and she makes this amazing nut roast, which she has instead of turkey for Christmas dinner. If I was going to go veggie I'd much rather have her nut roast than a fake turkey.

This is what I am cooking for my guests this year:

    Tofurkey with stuffing
    cottage cheese
    mashed Cauliflower
    beans
    spinach quiche
    whole cranberries
yogurt and cauliflower "pumpkin like" pie.

Absolutely genius way of getting out out of being the one who has to do it next year.

Way to say 'I don't really want you here' without actually saying it.

It wasn't THAT bad... till I saw the "pumpkin like" pie.. Even your dessert is going to be horrible? That's just mean!

We make Tofurkey every year for Thanksgiving. My husband and I both love it. Last year, we used dry onion soup mix for the seasoning and both thought it was the best way we have ever had it. Surround it in the pan with cubed potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion. Yum! We make extra stuffing, mashed potatoes, warm bread, cranberry sauce...I could go on and on. Seriously love Thanksgiving!
I definitely recommend the Field Roast too. Be sure to get the one with the crescent wrapped around it. That's what we do for Christmas dinner! Delicious!!!!!!

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. For the record, I don't plan on eating either a fake or real turkey. I'm a pescetarian (I don't eat poultry, beef, or pork) and I don't like any kind of fake meat. I always just eat the side dishes. The fake turkey would be for my husband and his mom who are meat eaters. My husband has had tofu chicken and liked it so I thought he might like a tofu turkey for a change.

I've been having Tofurkey for Thanksgiving for the past 10+ years - and I love it!

Make a baste of orange juice and brown sugar - the sweet/tanginess is nice.

Does it taste like Turkey? I haven't had Turkey in 19 years - but I'm guessing 'No'!

    Get Over It!

Obviously, not everyone WANTS Turkey - this is a nice alternative, Haters!

My husband serves Turkey for the rest of our guests.

I've had them many times and they don't make a bad alternative to turkey at all. Have some mushroom gravy and cranberry sauce on hand and with all your good veggies and healthy desserts, you will come away feeling very satiated. Don't forget, you don't need as much of a Tofurky portion as you would a real turkey. The portion size is deceiving on the plate because it really fills you up. I find it is also good in sandwiches the next day with cranberry sauce or vegan mayonnaise. Make sure your bread is an amazing one and you will totally enjoy it. Another roast that is very nice for the holidays is by Field Roast and has no soy in it. Their Celebration Roast is very nice and also good cold either with a salad or on a bun. Enjoy.

Does not make sense, they are meat eaters let them eat meat. That would make sense.

I ended up getting a Quorn Turk'y Roast. The turkey eaters loved it and said they'd like it again next Thanksgiving!

Great! I PERSONALLY like tofu, and many meat substitutes, but I have a hard time with Quorn. Well, after I read about it.
    Glad it went well!

This, I could understand if you were trying to find something everyone could eat and would like, but if you are not eating it anyway why can't they have their meat?!
    Glad they liked it anyway.

I'd cry, then I'd eat the beans, a few cranberries and maybe the spinach quiche if it had a lot of cheddar cheese in it. I'd probably drink a whole bottle of wine, too.
