When your team loses, do you reach for food?

The reasons are fairly obvious: Researchers account the excessive eating to a need for comfort food in the face of what defeated fans see as a direct personal attack.

“For many people, the football team that you support is part of your identity,” says Yann Cornil, MS, lead researcher and a doctoral candidate at INSEAD, an international business school. “When your team loses, it threatens who you are. When there is such threat to your identity, you compensate by eating something unhealthy, something uplifting.”

I'll be the first to say that when my team loses, it does affect my mood for awhile. Thankfully food isn't part of that mood.

For me, disappointment is one of those emotions that really causes eating problems. If you're emotionally invested into a team, the disappointment can really hit hard.

Just get Kaepernick to throw you a bag of chips...you won't be eating anything.

    Not me.

I'm probably not emotionally invested enough - I went to several universities, plus I'll cheer for any team from my state if an alma mater isn't playing. That's a lot of teams to cheer for, so if one loses it's on to the next.

    Sort of.

I am a West Ham season ticket holder and as much as I love my team, I accept that they are never going to be the greatest. Knowing this, I hit the pub before a match, and if a good or bad result, will hit the pub after. This normally involves my eating of bad (but tasty) foods after leaving the pub.

We are not having a good season

I'm a Mets fan and a UConn fan. I have been expecting disappointment from the Mets since I was born in 1991.

Nah, not really. While I enjoy sports and watch my teams religiously, in the end, it's just a game.
