What to do with all the Halloween candy?

I buy a big bag of candy to pass out to kids who come to trick-or-treat, and my kids go out and get even more. Now I have tons of candy at my house. I don't want to bring it to work because I would have to walk past it 10 times a day. I don't want me or my kids to eat it...

What do you do with your extra candy after the fun of Halloween is gone???

I made goody bags up of all my family's favorites and am getting it out of here. A huge bag of candy divides up nicely between 8 people!

In my area there are Dentists that buy it back for $1 a pound & then send it to soldiers. Check around & see if thats available in your area.

i heard there's organizations that collect halloween candy to send to troops overseas. i don't have much more info. than that. perhaps look around online?
  • keep it / freeze it and use in recipes.
plus, i like the small portioned out candy because it gives me a nice little snack ;)

Our local dentists are paying a dollar per pound of Halloween candy brought in to them. Then they ship it off to the troops. Maybe you can check and see if they do it where you live, too!
  • Google it.

Seriously, there's a dentist in my area buying back the candy and donating it to the troops and there's other charities that are taking it as donations and sending it to the troops as well.
I'd goole and see if you have anything similar in your area.

See if your church or a local church can use the Candy for the kids classes. My son usually gets a piece or two on Sunday's if he answers questions correctly. :)

I either find a charity that will take it or donate it to local food bank. I don't let it stay in my house more then a couple of days after halloween, so I'm not tempted.

donate it to a youth group or non-profit...or check with your local dentists :)
  • I had planned to take my leftover candy to the local homeless shelter. I however had more trick or treaters than I had planned on, so I had no candy left over.
  • I kept some favorites of my son's but took the rest to work and set it out for my co-workers to have a free for all. I have been very popular today.

I loved the idea to take it to a Dentists that will buy it back for $1 a pound & then send it to soldiers! I am going to do that, I found one near my house that will take the candy and send it. They don't pay for it, but I didn't buy much of it anyway, most was from the kids Trick-or-treat bags. Yay!

    *Funny side note*

    Parents of young ones-
Did you notice that the little ones get huge handfuls of candy and that the older kids get one or two pieces? I thought I was crazy at first, but no. I really wanted to pay attention this year and found that out that many older kids who went before or after us got only one candy while my kids got a few handfuls! The little ones don't need all this candy, but I think maybe they don't hit as many houses and go home earlier. Maybe it all evens out lol

Take it to your local women's shelter. The women with their children often only get basic meals - no treats or candy. The kids who fled to the shelter with their mother often go without special extras. The shelters do all they can to just provide a roof, a bed, and some clothing plus meals. The kids really appreciate candy from time to time. It makes the shelter a little more bearable. I would call first and make sure they're OK with it. Good luck!
